The Canadian media: Ottawa delivers the Saudis armored vehicles with powerful weapons
The contract for the supply of Canadian armored personnel carriers in Saudi Arabia includes the sale of armored vehicles, armed with 105-mm guns, reports Tass message to Canadian media. The contract was signed in 2014.
Under its terms, the Saudis would receive 928 of the armored vehicles model Lav-6 of general dynamics land systems based in Ontario, worth $ 12 billion. "The agreement provides for the supply of 119 armored vehicles, equipped with 105-mm guns, 119 armored personnel carriers with anti-tank weapons and armoured personnel carriers 119, which has a 30 mm aircraft gun.
The rest of the machines are equipped with "Standard" weapons (machine guns 5. 56 and 7. 62 mm and 25-mm cannon)", – says the publication. It is reported that the first deliveries of these vehicles began at the beginning of last year.
For the first time about this deal (without revealing details) in 2015, wrote the newspaper the globe and mail. According to it, "This agreement directly violates Canadian law, which prohibits the supply of arms to countries where human rights are violated".
The authors argued that such Canadian armored vehicles "sent in 2011 by Saudi Arabia to Bahrain to suppress the democratic uprising. " in 2016 the prime minister of Canada Justin Trudeau announced that his government will not cancel the deal because the contract was signed by the previous conservative government, and "Its termination of the current liberal government would be a terrible precedent". However, the prime minister assured that, henceforth, "The Canadian government will try not to make" such transactions.
