Oscar music director (AR Rahman's London) concert under scrutiny in social media

Wembley, London : As a part of his 25 years in the Indian cine industry as music director, Academy award winner Mr. A R Rahman had showcased his live concert on 8th July,2017 at the SSE Arena in Wembley, London. The show was postponed twice before the actual date claims sources.

A R Rahman had announced the concert titled “Netru Indru Nalai” to be performed along with Benny Dayal, Neeti Mohan, Haricharan, Jonita Gandhi, Ranjit Barot and Javed Ali on 16th March, 2017 in partnership with BTOS productions. The theme of the concert was planned as his music journey from “Roja” to “Kaatru Veliyidai”.

It was also announced that old concert dates at London- SSE Arena -March 24th, Birmingham-Barclaycard Arena -March 25th, Manchester- Manchester Arena -March 26th
will be applicable for the new concert. The show had mixed reaction as the marketing team termed it as “Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow” translated from Tamil and the songs sung were mostly from Kollywood.

There were many tweets and facebook posts regarding the walkout due to the language of the songs sung and few claimed refund for being not informed well about the event. In reply, many posts have been claiming that it was a pure Tamil concert as the title was in Tamil and its the mistake of the people who attended the same.

Few memes are also spreading viral trolling the “Hindi Imposition” in the non-hindi speaking states of India. Please comment below your view on such business being turned hatred and defaming artists due to improper channelling of advertisement and lesser awareness of the audience.

AR.Rahman is a tamilian and he always said that he is as tamilian as he is indian...tamilians are proud of their identity..anyway the title itself is in tamil...north indians should have expected what was in store for them in the concert.

Actually, it's more like Hindi speakers versus non-Hindi speakers. There are a lot of non-Hindi speakers in North India too, who also resent Hindi supremacists.

Hello north Indians, here's some news for you – AR Rahman is from Tamil Nadu.

Most of the man's songs are in Tamil, and some of his most stellar work is in the language, too.

So, dear Hindi speaking fans who went to the Rahman concert in Wembley (UK) on July 8, and walked out because "most of the songs were in Tamil", you have only your ignorance to be blamed.

Repeat after us, he's NOT a Bollywood composer. His title is 'The Mozart of Madras', not Mumbai. The 'Bollywood composer' tag comes from the international media which has no idea that Rahman's work in Slumdog Millionaire which won him two Academy Awards is not a patch on what he's produced for Tamil cinema.

And oh, the concert was titled 'Netru, Indru, Naalai' - perhaps you thought this was Spanish?

Some disgruntled Hindi speakers are even demanding a refund because they had to sit through Tamil songs. Because they couldn't understand it. Whatever happened to the clichés music fans spout about music having no language?

After all, even the Japanese could dance for “Why this kolaveri di”, without seemingly getting even a word of the song.

Naturally, a Twitter war has broken out among Rahman fans from the south and the Hindi Only folks. We're watching with verkadalai in our hands. No, we shall not translate what that means.

AR Rahman sings Tamil melodies at UK concert: Fight breaks out between Hindi and South Indian viewers
Hindi and South Indian film fans got involved in heated arguments after AR Rahman sang only Tamil compositions at the event.

The divide between Hindi-speaking people and South Indians has grown in the recent times. Kannada and Tamil-speaking people have raised concerns on social media about their languages being sidelined, and Hindi replacing the regional languages in banks and other central government offices.
