Well NO. not much. the issue here is complex and dangerous for Pakistan unless our Govt, ISI and Army speak up and accept our role in this operation. our silence is going to damage us.

at the end of the day, doesnt matter if media reports it or not --or whether people (the masses) either in Pakistan USA or elsewhere read about it. Ideally, they would. The cooperation is there, it is either just shrouded in mystery and hidden or there is just no real will on our side to go around claiming credit.

there's a reason why our help is sought after any why all this "do more" or "Pakistan terrorist bla bla bla" is merely for public consumption and not "private" ---at least for most of the issues

hope it made sense

Yes, same kind of report that this was all US operation - and the kudos and cheer given to Pakistan is for future concessions to allow Pakistanis a share of the feel good

Sir there are different information from khaki officials at high level here. i must say they are between the rock and the sea.

unfortunate but the true. but i feel how bitter it is we need to come up with clear statement before its too late.

0531: Justin King in New York, US writes: "Good news, bad reaction. While I am very pleased to hear that Bin Laden is no longer living and I understand that many may feel that this symbolises a sort of closure to 9/11 and the war in Afghanistan, I can't help but feel a little disgusted by the cheering mob jumping around outside the White House. As the world celebrates this occasion let's not forget that even killing a killer is an ugly business and we could be recognising Bin Laden's demise in a more dignified way." Have Your Say

:) and what does that mean ??? lolzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz we give a damn if its handled what way. the point is his body was retrieved last night and he was killed a week back.

Obama's speech listen to it.

ghosh and they call you a journalist . go listen to it yourself 3 x times ... the operation was today. Good lord woman. he gave the permission for the mission on friday last. mission took place today!

I believe It was solo operation of US seals.

I tend to agree - no one just goes into this sort of operation without practice and so I don't think Pakistanis are involved in any way -- the whole part of the Pakistanis trying to take credit is problematic -- because they also have to "take credit" for allowing him and his entourage there for so long

From BBC:

0544: The BBC's Haroon Rashid in Islamabad said that last night there were rumours that an operation was going on in an area close to Abbottabad. There were unconfirmed reports of a military helicopter crashing in the area as well. Witnesses said the whole area was cordoned off and nobody was allowed close although they did hear gunshots and firearms. But nobody had any inkling that this was an operation to get Osama bin Laden.
To cordon off the area, you need Pakistan military assistance. Bharatis can go to sleep now, but I can't guarantee if their sleep will be a good one.

CNN reporting secs ago- that Pentagon sources say that no country knew about us going in! ( then emphasized No country besides the US)

I'm sure Pakistan helped, the compound was being watched for months. Also the firefight lasted close to 40 min's in an area with a large military and retired military population. Pakistan authorities would have been on scene fairly quickly if they hadn't known about it before hand.

This contradicts Obama's comments where he praised Pakistan's cooperation in this operation.

I suspect Pakistan's involvement will be kept deliberately uncertain. As much as we would like to take due credit, it is also true that we are not America and the loony tunes are more likely to target Pakistan in revenge attacks than America.

i have a feeling that Pakistan may very well face such reprisals and attacks; and in fact we should not let our guard down at all

security arrangements should be elevated

Wonder why the Indians are trying to downplay Pakistan's role? Isn't it obvious from the comments released so far, and the fact Pakistani helicopters were involved, that there was a major Pakistani role?

Meeting at high level going in Islamabad. stay tuned Govt might going to issue a statement.

Why? It's possible OBL had just recently crossed some border into Pakistan. He wasn't just sat in one place for the last 10 years. DOH.

OK, fair enough - if that's what will placate you - in it's own country the Pak Fauj, played second fiddle of cordoning off a a couple of blocks -- but do you really imagine that this "contribution" suggests that they really knew what this was about?

News in US is that Pakistan has lot of explaining to do about the place Osama was living...

It wouldn't surprise me if Pakistan did all the work, but the Americans have been given credit for this.

1) A Pakistani helicopter was shot down on search ops in Abbotabad.
2) Reference to Pakistan being crucial to the find.

It's ironic he managed to escape Tora Bora in a US op, but not this one (which was probably a Pakistani op).

I'm willing to bet a fair penny that it was a joint operation. The US had Intel on Bin laden's hideout for a very long time, something like a year. But it wasn't until recently that they felt they had enough Intel to kill or capture him. There is no way that the US would not or did not participate in the operation. The old saying goes, if you want something done right; do it yourself. It would be an epic embracement and blunder if the US chose to let Pakistan be the sole spearhead in the assault only to watch Bin laden escape. Bin laden was too high of a target for the US to just sit back and watch.
