More kind of a Governance, Risk and Compliance tools to manage resources like AD, Exchange, Siebel, Lotus, LDAP and much more.

Basically to keep track
Who has access to what and what he is doing with that access? in other words Certification/Attestation by generating reports....

Even I have done certification in Sun IDM(Oracle Waveset) now with taking over SUN by Oracle..

I read about making dblinks with MS SQL, wanted to try it out sometime, don't have a running SQL server anywhere to give it a go.

My experience is more on the development side. No certifications, although I recently decided to change that. Did the SQL Fundamentals exam, now I'm thinking of going the DBA route rather than the dev route since I already kind of know all there is to know in the PLSQL/Forms world of Oracle, just to learn new things.

Nope, its an Identity Management that stores HR data to its repository and have all the access info about the IDM managed resources like LDAP/AD/Unix/Mainfames etc using connectors/adapters.....

So this sits over on top?

Yup at implementation and architecture level as per my understanding. It uses cloud computing but OIM it uses different components all togather be it SOA, Design interface/ Administration interface that are interconnected through adapters.

The appropriate route if you have development experience is not becoming a DBA but a data architect. And later on get yourself some Social Network Analytics experience. Or move into Business Intelligence area - Oracle DBA is more commoditized even if you specialize yourself as a Exadata DBA or a RAC DBA.

Learn SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)...to Link any kind of Database with SQL Server Database Engine.
