Opinionated - Should India worry if Pakistan becomes rich?

India is WORRIED. We know that.

Even the idea of Pakistan being a stronger economy brings nightmare for Indian establishment who always wanted Pakistan to fail as a state.

If Pakistan with barely sustaining economy is doing so well , imagine what would happened once Pakistan has a couple of trillion dollars economy. Pakistan is removing the bottle necks from economic stunting and you ll soon see the effects.

.
India and Pakistan need to have a closure on Kashmir issue ( Whatever that maybe) without that rich or poor Pakistan will always be a problem for India.

.
Its clear India will do whatever it takes to keep Pakistan from growing economically or militarily. No debate here. From covertly backing terrorists, using a network of expats to spread misinformation in the west, attempting to get multinational institutions to sanction us, and preventing arms deals. India was effective with this when Pakistan was USA centric and run by morons (PPP/PML). Pakistan is now clearly China centric and new factions of development minded individuals have emerged in Pakistan's politics and defense establishment......India will find it more difficult to retard us economically or militarily, IMO.

A richer Pakistan means more money to procure more weapons, to fund and train fighters in Kashmir; to create more divisions and violence between hindus and muslims in India.

But on the other hand a rich pakistan also means more educated and matured people. A mature pakistan means settling matters like kashmir through dialogue. It also means less people to recruit for Jihad in Kashmir (as poor, uneducated and umemployed people wont be available that easily).

Personally, I feel a rich Pakistan will definitely be a threat to India. A richer country doesn't automatically translate into a less religious and matured society. Saudi Arabia is rich but people there are religious. Kashmir issue is a religious issue. Even if Pakistan becomes rich, people and establishment there will not accept giving up fight for kashmir for greater good of the region.
Should India, therefore do everything in its capacity to keep pakistan poor?

Should?

India already does, it is waging war against Pakistan in all fields.

Mukti Bahni in east Pakistan, LTTE(Tamil tigers) in Sri Lanka, in Pakistan India supported the BLA/BRA much before any so called support by Pakistan of Kashmir militants.

India also supported MQM dissidents and militants...their terror infra is many a times bigger than Pakistan and under state patronage and support. Yes the navy serving commander Kulbashan Jhadav was a big fish nabbed, one reason for the sudden decline of terror acts in Karachi.
Never mind all those recent examples. What is the military junta of the Dogras in 1947 if not a terrorist outfit? The butchery of tens of thousands to grab a piece of land should be forgotten? Or "written off" as mere "partition violence that both sides indulged in"?

India committed a genocide as soon as the British turned their backs.

The issue of Kashmir between Pakistan and india is NOT just religious. It is RACIAL too.

True, the number of Kashmiri Muslims killed in that genocide was more than two hundred thousand.

Quote:

There are no official figures, so one has to go by reports in the British press of that period. Horace Alexander’s article on 16 January 1948 in The Spectator is much quoted; he put the number killed at 200,000.

To quote a 10 August 1948 report published in The Times, London: “2,37,000 Muslims were systematically exterminated – unless they escaped to Pakistan along the border – by the forces of the Dogra State headed by the Maharaja in person and aided by Hindus and Sikhs. This happened in October 1947, five days before the Pathan invasion and nine days before the Maharaja’s accession to india.” Reportedly, as a result of the massacre/migration, Muslims who were a majority (61 per cent) in the Jammu region became a minority.

Now that YOU have scrapped Article 370, the issue of Kashmir should be settled as per original proposal (UN Resolution 47). However, India is attempting to change the demographics of Kashmir by force lately. Pakistan have a principled stand on this issue.

You assume that India is not involved in militancy in Pakistan? Think again. BLA is an example. RAW agent Kulbushan Yadav is another example.

Come to the negotiation table in good faith and with flexibility in your mind.
The original UN resolution is dead as a dodo. The geography of Kashmir has changed so much that, any attempt at resolution of Kashmir will invariably invite China to the table as China also holds two pieces of land that belonged to the state of J&K which you settled without any regard for UNSC resolution, and what India couldn't acquire from China in 62. So, we scrapping Art 370 is as same as you giving provincial status to GB, which I say is the best way to move forward. (Regardless how Indian diplomatic language seem)

Pakistans issue in its Northern as well was NW provinces are the same as what we experience in our North East. You have an issue there, we are not trying to stake a claim over it unlike you in Kashmir. Even if what you allege is true, India is supplying weapons through Afghanistan under the nose of Taliban and NATO forces. Call that impossible unless either one of those is working with us. Bar Afg government that's not true. You know the real issues in there, you just can't blame them directly.

We are well past coming to any negotiating table, Pakistan is not exactly a democracy it's hard to deal with such hybrid regimes and cumbersome. ABV tried and failed, MMS smart guy didn't even bother, Modi tried and failed twice.

For Pakistan to get rich, it would need go on the path of Bangladesh of limiting military influence and focusing on economy. Not happening for Pakistan anytime soon

Should India, therefore do everything in its capacity to keep pakistan poor?
Memo to you. India and Indians have consistently done everything to push Pakistan down. Militarly, economically, politically India has done everything to bring Pakistan on it's knees from the first minute or indeed even before both countries gained independence. Deception, deciet, connivance etc were amply and are amplied used.

A richer country doesn't automatically translate into a less religious and matured society. Saudi Arabia is rich but people there are religious.
. Saudi was able to stay religious while getting rich only because of windfall natural resources. That option is not available to Pakistan. For Pakistan to get rich would be through science, trade and commerce - all of which require moderate, modern and undogmatic viewpoints. The view points comes first, the wealth comes later, there is no short cut.
