iPhone's future is in big trouble. The current XS models are not attractive enough to stop customers from switching to Huawei and Samsung, while the new "XI" models look like a bad copy of Huawei's last-generation Mate 20.

Apple is lagging behind

iPhone's market share is being taken away by Huawei and Samsung in volumes, according to data from the International Data Corporation (IDC).

The IDC found "a staggering 30.2 percent decline" in iPhone 2019 Q1 shipments compared to the same period last year. And looking at the graph they provided, you can clearly see most of the lost shares went to Huawei and Samsung.

After the bite on Apple's market share,
Huawei is now the world's second largest smartphone maker after Samsung, according to the IDC.

Why is Apple losing to rivals?

Look around the smartphone market and you will soon realize Apple is one of the few brands that still sells a dual-camera flagship.

Additional cameras help users taking group photos without walking backward, and close-up shots without blurring. So lacking the third and fourth camera limited users' ability to capture important moments in their lives.

Apple knows this disadvantage and is trying to catch up. As seen from the latest leaks of "iPhone XI," Apple will also mount at least three cameras on the back of the phone.

But the layout of the cameras look much like Huawei's Mate 20, a phone that‘s been selling for more than half a year.

What's worse, the U.S. phone giant positioned the cameras on the top-left corner just like the iPhone X, breaking the balance of the phone's design by emphasizing too much on this single corner. You can see the leaked design in the top photo.

Lots of Apple fans are already complaining about the strange design even though the phone is not announced yet.

It's hard to say if additional cameras can help Apple win the next round of the smartphone battle because Huawei has been diving deep into the algorithms behind multi-camera phones. Huawei's latest P30 Pro can zoom up 50 times and even take a rather clear shot of the moon. That's not something Apple can copy in a day.

Lack of 5G

Copying Huawei features is not a way out for Apple, because some cutting-edge technologies are not available to it. And 5G is one of them.

Apple cannot make a 5G smartphone by itself until 2021. The company used to rely on Qualcomm and Intel to let iPhones have signal bars.

But Intel has announced to quit the signal chip business and Qualcomm is making Apple bleed money after the two companies settled their court cases.

Huawei can also make 5G signal chips. But the U.S. is using political pressure to bar Huawei parts from entering the country. If Apple puts Huawei 5G chips in iPhones, chances are they'll get banned in their own land.

Accredited Apple analysts like KGI's Kuo Ming-Chi have denied the possibility of a 5G iPhone in 2019. So at the beginning of 5G, Apple will be absent.

No Surprise Here.
Steve Jobs considers Copying and Stealing is GREAT art.

This from the same Steve Jobs who famously said in 1996: "Picasso had a saying -- 'good artists copy; great artists steal' -- and we have always been shameless about stealing great ideas."

I can't believe they took such a well designed and appealing camera quad from the last generation Huawei Mate 20 Pro and turned it into that ugly monstrosity called the iPhone 11.

I don't think Huawei is going to complain about it. It seems to be somehow softhearted for Apple for some reason. Didn't Huawei just offer its 5G chip to Apple, and Apple only?

IMO, the quad camera on P30 Pro looks much more elegant than the one on Mate 20 Pro.

Apple wants to boost sales is very easy, just lower the price

Lowering the price is dangerous for Apple, they have built up a reputation as a "luxury" brand whereby customers pay a huge premium just for the Apple logo.

If they start dropping their prices and start competing in the mid-range price bracket, not only will they lose miserably to OnePlus/Xiaomi/Huawei but they will also dilute their image as a luxury brand. It is a race to the bottom that they can't win.

Apple sales will continue to drop, there is no way around that. In order to maintain profitability they have to increase sales prices, in order to squeeze more out of their remaining customers. But there is only so much they can squeeze when competitors like Huawei and Samsung are offering next-generation flagship technologies and Apple is so far behind.

Ironically of course, Apple has actually been dropping prices recently. It is a move that reeks of desperation.

.
Huawei has really improved its camera in mobile phones especially night mode function is very much comparable to google night sight . Huawei top end phones also offer best zooming capabilities in mobile camera. They need to improve video recording though .. Google phone(Pixel 2/3) still offer best photography experience for me personally . I am saying this after using iPhone XR/P20 pro/Mate 20 pro/Note 9 etc. Google HDR Plus do magic in auto mode which show that you don't need many cameras to take great photos

.
I dont understand the concept of having multiple optical cameras to get the best picture. My Google Pixel 3 does great job with just a 12MP cam and none of the other phones with 4 cams come close to its picture clarity. Its night mode is another stunning feature.

But Apple deserves it.. Focking 1500 CAD for Iphone XS MAX.. And why the hell anyone would even buy it when you can buy one plus one at half its cost... Mobile prices need to come down to 1000$ for quite sometime.. People's income arent rising as fast as the cost of mobiles rising.. Samsung competed with Apple cos it offered the same features at a lesser cost. Now with Samsung competing with Apple in nearly same price it too also loses market share... Apple makes an insanely huge profit margin on each phone it sells... nearly 750$ after advertising and logistics.. The cost of manufacturing and R&D cost isnt more than 600$. It needs to lessen it..

.
Ironically of course, Apple has actually been dropping prices recently. It is a move that reeks of desperation.

Since the trade war has begun, several US brands had to lower their prices to stay competitive in China's market. Another example is Tesla.

But, if their only advantage is the sense of importance they give to people who pay huge amounts for more or less the same offerings with other brands, lowering prices is only a slow death.

No wonder US administration has shown discomfort recently as far as trade talks are concerned.

. .
Apple phones are way too overpriced for the technology they offer. I also don't like their so called walled garden and single button operation.
