@Vergennes
Did France provide any Air combat support to coalition forces during Op Desert Storm?

powerful picture isn't it?
For Saddam, biggest defeat was loss of his Demi God sort of image amongst Iraqi people, something he could never recover from.

The french air force deployed 55 combat aircrafts including the Jaguar, the Mirage F1 and the Mirage 2000 C.
The Mirage F1 were grounded during the first days, because they could have been mistaken for iraqis,as they also had some F1s.
They could take the air 9 days after the begining of the operations.

During the 43 days of the aerial offensive of Desert Storm, more than 2.472 sorties and 1.400 missions were conducted by the french air force, without any losses of aircraft or personnels to enemy fire and maintaining an incredible availability rate of 95%!

PS : Some jaguar were hit,but still made it to the base. ;)

^^^ And the attack helos ( Gazelles ) took part in a joint mission
with our American friends that erased a huge part of the Iraqis'
armoured force in which destruction was so utterly accomplished
that it had some war theoreticians believe that tanks were "passé".

On a lighter note, those images show how much France has adapted
its forces since that "war". Green fatigues in the desert, bright blue duct
tape securing the magazines and protecting them against sand of the
SF guys even though they had proper camo and full black dress for
the Mistral teams that were almost unbearable in the desert sun . . .

I really think that, even while having to pay to acquire part of their wares
and wears, the present situation is better for the soldiers of today, at least
efficiency wise.

Side note to Vaubernes : That is the equipment I grew on that we discussed, nice memories.

Good day all, Tay.
