he former chief minister of the Indian state of Haryana Om Prakash Chautala and his politician son Ajay have been sentenced for 10 years in jail in a corruption case.

Last week, the politicians and 53 others were convicted for illegally hiring more than 3,000 school teachers.

Chautala is the leader of the Indian National Lok Dal party and the son of former deputy prime minister Devi Lal.

Earlier, his supporters clashed with the police outside the court.

Police used batons and fired teargas shells to control the thousands of protesters who had gathered outside the court complex on Tuesday morning.

The scandal came to light in 2008 when the federal Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed charges against Chautala and the others.

The CBI said father and son had forged documents to appoint 3,206 teachers between 1999 and 2000.

Its just Delhi court verdict ,they may challenge tis verdict in SC/ they can seeks to re investigate whole case /or they can ask to change the judge etc by that time culprit would die. Here many Indians don't having idea about the functioning of our system.

Chotala is looter no doubt but here we have cherry picking and use of CBI by congress in haryana.

It is very rare that the judgement of lower court is reversed by a higher court when the matter is investigated by the CBI.
The sentence can be softened but only because the number of years spent by the accused/Convict already.

Most importantly, this conviction disqualifies them from contesting elections next year in Haryana and Genral elections.
If this benefits them or hurts them politically is another discussion.

Guess, the bolded part underestimates "Indians".

Well after a few days he might be out on bail or parole and apply in Supreme court and case drags on

At least a start. Normally it's 'i scratch your back, you scratch mine'. When it comes to political corruption.. everyone looks after each other irrespective of their party affiliation. Now.. if the other party comes into power they can go after Huda & his cronies. He is not any less corrupt either. We have Robert Vadra case where Huda govt felicitated massive corruption involving land deals..
