Only Farooq Sattar authorised to award Senate tickets to MQM-P members: ECP
Sattar says no one should be allowed to cast doubts on his intentions; says rivals taking advantage of situation.
Much to the dismay of Muttahida Quami Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Rabita Committee, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced on Friday that only Farooq Sattar is authorised to grant Senate election’s tickets to party’s members.
Earlier today, the Rabita Committee wrote to the ECP, stating that Sattar will not be given the authority to extend tickets for the election.
However, the polling authority said that only the head of the party reserved the authority to issue a ticket to any party member.
The point of contention between party members is the issue of granting a party ticket to Kamran Tessori to contest the Senate elections, who was sacked earlier from decision-making body, Rabita Committee.
Meanwhile, Sattar told media outside his residence in PIB colony that he has summoned a meeting of the parliamentarians at his house, saying he will then head to MQM’s Bahadurabad office where he will chair another meeting.
Internal rifts in MQM will not impact Sindh: Khursheed Shah
According to him, important decisions will be made in the meeting at Bahadurabad office. “The arch-rivals of the party will attempt to give an impression as if a dialogue is taking place [between two factions], but they are wrong.”
“While everyone has the right to disagree, our rivals may use this situation to their advantage,” he added.
Sattar also said that the one leading a party is held responsible for any loopholes. “The head of a party should have powers in proportion to his or her responsibilities,” he said and added, “No one should be allowed to cast doubts on my intention.”
No matter how grave are the differences, it should be on the media, he asserted.
The party leadership has been expressing its concerns ever since Dr Sattar appointed Tessori deputy convener of the party. His presence is reportedly creating divisions and groupings within the party, which is in turn causing great difficulty for the MQM-Pakistan chief.
