Once Upon A Time In Pakistan

A brilliant look into the past. It is easy to say that things have changed, but they have not. No matter how bad things get, it seems every decade people face the same problems.

Similar thread was posted many times before old fascinations of liberals who want bar in every street and to walk completely naked in streets which is not going to happen in Pakistan.

So what? Noone is forcing you to go to a bar or walk naked on the street. Why should you force them not to? You are not not their rishte-dar. Are you afraid you don't look good naked?

.
Here's my take on all of this: When I goto Bulgaria, I wana try what Bulgaria has to offer, not what I'm used to having back home. if you want to party and drink beer, might as well stay where you are. When you goto a country, you go there to experience its culture and what it has to offer.

We shouldn't try to mimic other countries and instead take pride in our own identity. I get the feeling that people think it was some kind of a great feat that we had nightclubs, it wasn't and isn't our culture. At best, we were a less expensive version of what they were used to having back home. Instead, they should visit a ghazal, qawwali or a pop concert and experience the real Pakistan.

When a foreigner comes to Pak, we should serve them lassi, kashmiri chai, qahwa and not a beer. Do I miss the partying and the booze? No. Do I miss the fact that we were good at a lot of things? Most definitely.

incorrect conclusion by both you and NFP. the issue is NOT with Pakistan being liberal or extremist. There were people who would walk around in thongs back then and there were people who would kill you over how you clasp your hands in prayer... the difference was in the level of tolerance the middle section of society showed for them both along with Unity of Purpose. Now Pakistan is intolerant and disconnected, a mere shadow of a nation.

It is not about whether the Mullah is always talking about how women dress(because that is really ALL that is on his mind) or about whether Liberals think Mullahs to be damaging to their social activities(which involves spending 25000 on valentine's day flowers when right across them people live in abject poverty and malnourishment)... its about the level of tolerance and care these people had for their fellow human beings.

well women doing job was never an issue in country read about women role in Pakistan movement and Pakistan Army AMC,the problem only that time was availability of JOBS,women are only getting educated because Government has built more educations institutes in last 20 years mean those who are leaving some institute would have to use what they got from institute and also compare our population before 1980 and today..

The last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar in 1858, just after his trial and before his departure for exile in Burma.
Bahadur Shah Zafar presided over a Mughal empire that barely extended beyond Delhi's Red Fort. The East India Company was the dominant political and military power in mid-nineteenth century India. Outside Company controlled India, hundreds of kingdoms and principalities, from the large to the small, fragmented the land. The emperor in Delhi was paid some respect by the Company and allowed a pension. The emperor held the authority to collect some taxes around the city of Delhi and to maintain a small military force in Delhi, but he posed no threat to any power in India. Bahadur Shah himself did not take an interest in statecraft or possess any imperial ambitions. After the Indian Rebellion of 1857, the British exiled him from Delhi.
Bahadur Shah Zafar was a noted Urdu poet, and wrote a large number of Urdu ghazals. While some part of his opus was lost or destroyed during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, a large collection did survive, and was later compiled into the Kulliyyat-i-Zafar. The court that he maintained was home to several Urdu writers of high standing, including Mirza Ghalib, Dagh, Mumin, and Zauq.
Even in defeat it is traditionally believed that he said,
غازیوں میں بو رھےگی جب تلک ایمان کی

تخت لندن تک چلےگی تیغ ھندوستان کی

@fakhre mirpur has a point. What do you guys find so nostalgic in these old photographs? Even an Indian will agree Pakistan in 2015 is better than it was in 55.
