ISLAMABAD: Oman on Thursday expressed keenness for further collaboration with Pakistan in the business of petroleum products, including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and gasoline.

A delegation from Oman Trading International (OTI) Ltd, led by Ambassador of Oman to Pakistan Al Sheikh Mohammed Al Marhoon and OTI Executive Director Said Al Maawali, called on Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Petroleum Nadeem Babar and expressed its desire to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Pakistan LNG Limited.

The delegation also expressed willingness to increase the supply of gasoline, petroleum products and LPG.

Expressing the OTI’s desire to expand its footprint in Pakistan’s market, Said Al Mawaali termed the country as one of the key markets in the region and an important component of OTI’s expansion plans in the Middle East &North Africa and South Asian regions.

Nadeem Babar on the occasion shared the progress on reforms being made by the government in its energy sector and assured the visiting delegation that all steps would be taken to facilitate OTI’s endeavours in the Pakistani market.

He explained Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision of reaffirming and strengthening the bonds with all foreign countries, particularly the regional countries.

Said Al Maawali said that Oman held Pakistan in high esteem and both countries were linked by shared bonds of culture, history, geography and traditions. The SAPM warmly reciprocated these sentiments of brotherhood.

Both sides reiterated their mutual resolve to elevate bilateral relations between both the countries.

It may be mentioned that Oman Trading International is one of Oman’s leading conglomerates with interests in various sectors of the country’s economy.

Oman should allow the construction of an oil and or gas pipeline to the planned Saudi refinery on the Pakistani coast. It will allow oil and gas supplies to the Asian Market even if tensions in the Gulf flare up. A potential land based extension to China, Korea, Japan and even India would put Oman and Pakistan in the center of oil trade in the region. Earning both nations a decent amount through transit fees.

.
An oil pipeline wud need newer technologies and/or materials. We are looking at depths where mankind has never laid a pipeline before.
Viable options are iran, Turkmenistan or along iranian coast or usin its territorial waters.

.
Don’t trust Oman.

They view India as an ally and us as rivals. Nothing but a second Chahbahar happening there. Add in support for BLA, and you get the picture.

Keep close to more reliable allies such as Qatar and KSA for energy imports.

what is this morbid desire to make a living off transit fees ?

Not morbid, just strategic. Exploiting your position to earn a steady income stream while also integrating yourself in the needs of others is stabilizing. Isn't that one aspect of what economies are built upon. If Slovakia and Bulgaria can earn millions, just from their strategic location, why can't Pakistan.

Russia's dilemma is simple. bypassing Ukraine and Poland is geographically impossible
slovakia and bulgaria have small populations. transit fees will never resolve pakistan's economic woes.

the suez canal is world's most important transit corridor. how much do you think Egypt makes ?

fyi I am all for making money and making yourself useful in the world. i think the expectations are out of whack :pakistan:

I never said it would be a relatively huge amount of money, but if your bring up the Suez canal; a few billion dollars every year isn't bad. I am all for keeping expectations within the realm of realistic, but having a realistic vision of future demand is why the TAPI pipeline and IPI pipelines were proposed. The demand is there. In all reality, pipeline transit fees will have to earn at least tens of millions a year to recover their construction costs, but the strategic leverage could be worth it in the estimation of regional governments. ROI on an investment is not always economic.

Forget the financials, The strategic importance is much greater.

US & India cannot reach central asia without Pakistan's help.

Russia and China cannot reach Indian ocean without Pakistan's help.

Pakistan has all the trump cards in this great game.

Financials drive what is strategic

What is there in Central Asia worth dying for ?

There is another country called Iran on the map

Suez Canal is the ultimate transit platform

Anything pakistan can provide will yield fraction of the revenues (READ: few hundred million dollars)

What do you think India is hand you guys Kashmir just because a couple of pipelines run through the country
