16 latest variants of OH 58 light attack and recon helicopter... It looks some of these are Kiowa Warriors equiped with hellfire rockets.

Croatian army has a tight budget thus can only afford like around 100 to 200 million US dollars for upgrades/new equipment each year which isn't enough and since we're buddy buddy with USA thanks to Clinton and are in NATO and EU and USA is slowly getting rid off these thus why waste it? Only thing were are paying is the simulator and training.

Great deal since it comes with guns... 16 Kiowa's for 10 million? Bargain. A single Super Viper Attack Helicopter is 20-30 million yet we get for 1/2-1/3 firepower of 8 SV's. xD

Serbia's closeness with Russia and the likely that Serbian goverment basically has history of dancing and doing what Russians ask them to do, almost puppet goverment.

Serbian Republic in Bosnia and Hercegovina federation is being increasingly nationalistic and OH 58 Kiowa is a great chopper for terrain of BIH with a lot of mountains and hills.

Yep... Its a win win situation, croatian army gets supplied with OH-58D for basically nothing and companies that do maintainance for these continue to work and diverting the profit for conversion in future for newer choppers.

OH-58D is a good chopper, with 8 hellfire missiles per chopper it can destroy all working not under stasis tanks in serbia in five minutes.

My mistake... You can only put hellfire on bottom partition on each side...

Apache and Cobra are capable of having 4 on each side...

The role for Kiowa is Recon. So unless Croatia have some sort of insurgency problem in the country side, then they are almost certainly used as border protection.

In theory, Kiowa were used in conjunction with attack helicopter, it is basically the longbow before the Apache have their own longbow radar. What they can do now has multiplied, they can be used to control drone. Carryout interdiction mission and also a part of Search and Rescue mission.

Kiowa is an old airframe tho, have been used since the 70s, which was the main draw back of the system, and Boeing actually may not reopen the shop to repair them as US Army started phasing out the Kiowa themselves (Well, they won't keep the shop open for just the 16 Kiowa in Croatia....) So right now there would be no problem for maintenance, but eventually Croatia would need to find a way to maintain their stock.

in term of Firepower, Kiowa are retrofitted to use next generation JAGM (Joint Air-Ground Missile) which were slate to replace the Hellfire and also can control RQ-9 drone as well, so Croatia may want to get the drone too to have 100% function out of these Kiowa. Most Frequent armament for a Kiowa is a 7 rocket pod and 50 cal gun tho. Hellfire are only carried for interdiction mission.

On one side you can have two hellfire rockets and on the other a .50 caliber machinegun and rocket pod equiped with guided Hydra rockets thus it can combat infrantry, armored infrantry vehicles, tanks and helicopters...

Well, they are scout in the US military, we uses MH-6/MD-500 for light attack role, also US uses MH-60 Gunship for light attack role too.

One thing I need to mention is the Bell (not boeing, which I made a mistake earlier) actually closed the OH-58 production facilities and they won't be supplying OH-58 Spare parts to new customer anymore, plans were there to reopen the OH-58 parts production line ages ago, almost all replacement part are procured by Bell 406 production line (which OH-58D is based on) there may be shortage of Military Hardware for OH-58D depending on location and supply line. As far as I know most OH-58D were reusing recycle parts for non-mechanical spare.

And If I remember correctly, you can only put 1 rocket pod each side, so you cannot put a Rocket pod and 50 cal on the same side.
