Demonstrators came under heavy fire by security forces as they tried to push their way forward to the Presidential Palace

Hospital officials have confirmed five protesters were killed in demonstrations in Kabul on Friday - a revision against an earlier count of seven.

Kabul Emergency Hospital has confirmed that five, not seven, people were killed. This happened after security forces opened fire on the demonstrators.

According to officials, among the dead, two were shot in the head and two in the chest.

The number of wounded is not yet clear but hospital officials also said that most of the wounded had been shot in the legs and feet.

Amid heavy firing by security forces earlier Friday afternoon, TOLOnews journalist Samim Faramarz said on the phone to TOLOnews.com that police were firing above people’s heads while security personnel where also firing a mounted machine gun from a Humvee.

Protesters had by early afternoon been pushed back to 15th Street in Wazir Akbar Khan, which is just a few hundred meters from the scene of Wednesday’s deadly truck bombing.

Angry protesters not only stoned fire trucks and security force vehicles earlier in the day but had been chanting “Down With (President Ashraf) Ghani”, “Down With the CEO (Abdullah Abdullah)” and “Down With The U.S”.

Fire trucks used water cannons on the crowd, while security forces threw tear gas canisters but this appeared to have angered demonstrators further.

An earlier shooting killed Mohammad Salem, the son of the first deputy speaker of the Meshrano Jirga (Upper House of Parliament).

This mass rally was in protest against government for failing to prevent attacks in Kabul city following Wednesday's deadly truck bombing in Wazir Akbar Khan area, which is not only in the heart of the city but is also the diplomatic zone.

@FalconsForPeace @Areesh @DESERT FIGHTER @Spring Onion This news show how much love these Afghan Establishment have for their people. Their own army firing at the protestors. And their government , intelligence agency (NDS) and military don't leave a single Chance to perform propaganda against Pakistan. I know one thing for fact if the protestors don't fire at Pakistan Army they also don't fire at them.

Firing started when some protesters carrying weapons fired at police.
Sell your crap elsewhere . There was a live TV broadcast showing brave Afghan security forces firing at civilians. Also I saw some videos by Afghan bloggers themselves who were part of the protest they said Afghan forces fired randomly at protestors.

What was the protest for?
It was against Afghan government and military for not doing enough to protect Afghanistan

lolzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz despite being from the same profession I was reading the entire news item with amazement and irritation and asking the same question why the fk they were protesting. It was dawned upon me only in the last line of the news that they protesting against govt failure to stop Kabul bombing.

Now the real reason for my comment here is that do not take ToloNews on face value. This shows their pathetic level of professionalism.

Seriously the news item is zero percent according to journalism's simple rule of 5Ws one H. You cannot trust every shit coming from Tolonews

Could be BUT "security personnel where also firing a mounted machine gun from a Humvee." hmmmmm this is strange. this claim in the news item shows much unprofessional-ism on the part of Afghan forces.

What they were thinking it was a Rocky 5 shooting in Kabul or what?

Talk about irony. They blame Pakistan for the attack, but end up killing each other.

We can't reiterate enough how important it is to seal the border and ramp up the repatriation of Afghans. On a similar note we need to be very careful with the malicious powers behind the scenes stoking resentment. They claim to be our allies, but in reality they only mean harm.

I support your opinion. Secure borders contribute to stronger safer nations. After 16 years Pakistans is still unable to seal the border which has become extremely frustrating and a sense of grave anguish. Pak cannot have open border policy with AFG and Iran.
