From 30 March to 3 April Admiral Rogel has visited China on an official visit.
He first was warmly welcomed by his Chinese counterpart in Beijing, Wu Shengli Admiral before traveling to Qingdao, Northern Fleet base to visit several ship units including the aircraft carrier Liaoning.
Back in Beijing, Admiral Rogel was received by the Chief of General Staff of the Liberation Army, General Fang Fenghui.
The relations between our two navies are part of a military strategic dialogue based on staff meetings on topics of common interest such as the fight against maritime piracy.
China is a major military actor who wants to strengthen its naval capabilities. It ensures the permanence of a naval group in the Indian Ocean and regularly deploys its buildings to the Mediterranean or Atlantic.

Note the J-15 in the background; the jet is rumored to be slated for radar upgrades in the 2015-2016 time frame.

Also keep in mind that most of the visit likely took place on the "Liaoning", which is implicit of the notion that Beijing (1) views France as an important partner in the geopolitical and military sense, and (2) wants to allay international fears regarding its burgeoning naval aviation capability as much as possible by being as transparent as possible, at the same time retaining enough information from the public eye..

But compared with 2013 American Defense Minister visited PLAN CV16 ... there's nothing changed.

Cheap shot
France may be learning from China too - hmmm on how to turn a rusty block of iron into a decent aircraft carrier platform

Yes, sadly still the same two mock-ups in the same corner ... only the guys' uniforms are coloured differently !

What you see it here about China's Liaoning is not the final conclusion of China's aircraft carrier development.
Liaoning is used for training and research.
Apart from visiting Liaoning and the Norhern Fleet Base he has also visited our Submarine Academy
