Obama Administration Should Tell Israel U.S. Will Attack Israeli Jets if They Try to Attack Iran

The national security adviser for former President Jimmy Carter, Zbigniew Brzezinski, gave an interview to The Daily Beast in which he suggested President Obama should make it clear to Israel that if they attempt to attack Iran's nuclear weapons sites the U.S. Air Force will stop them.

"We are not exactly impotent little babies," Brzezinski said. "They have to fly over our airspace in Iraq. Are we just going to sit there and watch? ... We have to be serious about denying them that right. That means a denial where you aren’t just saying it. If they fly over, you go up and confront them. They have the choice of turning back or not. No one wishes for this but it could be a 'Liberty' in reverse."

The USS Liberty was a U.S. Navy technical research ship that the Israeli Air Force mistakenly attacked during the Six Day War in 1967.

Brzezinski endorsed then-Sen. Obama's presidential campaign in August 2007, which at the time was portrayed in the media as a boost to Obama's foreign policy cred. The Washington Post reported: "Barack Obama, combating the perception that he is too young and inexperienced to handle a dangerous world, got a boost yesterday from a paragon of foreign policy eminence, Zbigniew Brzezinski."

Brzezinski was never an official campaign adviser, but Republicans jumped on the endorsement to push the meme that Obama wouldn't be a friend to Israel, as Brzezinski's views of Israel attracted criticism from some quarters in the American Jewish community.

“Brzezinski is not an adviser to the campaign,” former Ambassador Dennis Ross, then a senior adviser on Middle East affairs to the Obama campaign, said at the time. “There is a lot of disinformation that is being pushed, but he is not an adviser to the campaign. Brzezinski came out and supported Obama early because of the war in Iraq. A year or so ago they talked a couple of times. That’s the extent of it, and Sen. Obama has made it clear that on other Middle Eastern issues, Brzezinski is not who he looks to. They don’t have the same views.”

Brzezinski plays no role in the Obama administration; the White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Brzezinski's comments come within the same week that the White House distanced itself from comments made by former President Carter, who said he thinks "an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man."

UPDATE: Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev told CNN that Israeli President Shimon Peres assured him that Israel would not attack Iran.

"This is the worst thing that one can imagine," Medvedev said. "What would happen afterwards? A humanitarian catastrophe, a huge number of refugees. And Iran would want revenge, and not only over Israel, but over other countries as well. The events in the region would become completely unpredictable. I think the scope of such a disaster would not be comparable to anything. Therefore, before taking the decision to launch any attacks, you need to think the situation through. It would be the most irrational way to deal with the situation. But my Israeli colleagues told me they do not plan to do that. And I trust them.`

US going to attack Israeli jets............

Many people will get heart attack if they hear this ........:hitwall:

I don't put much stock in anyone that was a national security adviser to Jimmy Carter. He is considered in the U.S. to be one of the worst presidents this country has had. He had no back bone. and the economic mess he presided over. was as bad if not worse then the current economic mess is today.

back on subject though the U.S. will not attack Israeli jets. It would be political suicide for Obama since Israel has wide backing in the U.S.. and not just from politicians. Israel enjoys wide support among the American people. It is also more expedient for the U.S. to allow Israel to attack Iran then itself.

@Thomas
You missed this

Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev told CNN that Israeli President Shimon Peres assured him that Israel would not attack Iran.

Israel will not attack Iran, so US attacking Israeli planes does not arise

.
Isreal is no Pakistan that US will tell them these kind a things. This will never ever happend.

US does not have the luxury anymore to stand as a mute witness...

look all over the world...hatred for US has increased exponentially in the Muslim world...such a step even if taken by Israel will be seen as a joint US Israel effort in 99% of the world outside US...

This may well seal the fate of US efforts to rebuild its image in post Iraq and Afghan war scenario, especially in the Muslim world...

The repercussions will be extreme as far as my take on such a step is concerned...

I think Obama will try his best to stop Israel from any adventure...but if Israel does it on its own...Obama will never be able to convince the world of US neutrality....

Who says US is neutral in the first place. It is naive on behave of Mr. Zbigniew Brzezinski to come with such an idea about the US confronting Israel. If US is so much neutral in the first place all they need is to stop all the defence aid going to Israel and all those sophisticated military hardware going to Israel and US spy satellites working day and night giving Israel real time intelligence. If this help stops Israel wont be able to do squat to Iran and Iran is much more capable to take Israel alone on its own.

Zbig Brzezinski: Obama Administration Should Tell Israel U.S. Will Attack Israeli Jets if They Try to Attack Iran - Political Punch

This is the most sensible recommendation. Hopefully America will grow a spine and stand up to World Jewish Terrorism. There is no other way to ensure world peace!

if the israelis do attack iran they will have to fly over iraq meaning that the US will be held responsible for attacks on iran indirectly.

Says US, not me...relax...:)

Iran is not capable to deal with Israeli air force on equal footing...even if US does not render aid via its satellites...

Israel's most modern air force coupled with their AEW&C and electronic jamming capabilities will very much enable them to strike first and strike hard...this actually makes it even worse since the odds of Israel succeeding and making Iran furious are quite likely...

Why can't the Israelis fly over/from Saudi Arabia. Why cannot the Americans do it themselves. Americans have never worried about the Muslim world till date why will it worry now. Or do you want to say Shias and Sunnis have all sorted out their differences, that have been there since god knows when.

The Russians dont want an Iranian Bomb.
The Americans dont want an Iranian Bomb.
The Saudis (probably the whole Arab world) dont want an Iranian Bomb.
The Europeans dont want an Iranian Bomb.
Hell even Rafsanjani wants a non-confrontationist Iranian stand (probably dont even wants nukes)
The Israelis are just one of the many parties that dont want the Iranian Bomb.

IMO. Talks are the best way forward and do carry potential. The situation is not like China-India-Pakistan and hence gives hope for resolution.

.
Saudis may be amenable and that's not Iraqi airspace. The coordination has been discussed, IIRC.

We won't attack IAF aircraft on this mission particularly should they avoid Iraqi airspace. Might even see the Turks open their airspace up. They already did so for the Syrian reactor raid.

All-Green, please understand that such an attack will quite likely come if it's determined that Iran's intent is to have a bomb and are near such. If so, most Americans could give a whit should muslims globally hate us ever so much incrementally more than already.

Big fcukin' deal. It's not as though those feelings rest on a tipping point.

Iran does have Israel within the striking range of its missiles. Moreover i dont see how without the US help and assistance can the israelies succeed on neutralizing Iranian nuclear capabilities. The way i see it the chances of complete neutralizing or even delaying it by a decade it very slim unless Israel decides to use nuclear weapons on Iran which wouldnt be possible without an international condemnation.
We must not forget that Iran has one of the lattest Russian SAM system to protect its nuclear installations and only the US stealth planes have the capability to surpass those defences. US itself has admitted this fact that Israel alone cant netrualize Iran's nuclear capabilites.

Well, from where i am standing...this is not a piece of cake if USA has taken into account what i am talking about...
You cannot predict what will happen...once the reactor is hit...the world is in for something unpleasant and long lasting...this will give rise to a new wave of violence across many countries...

You see S-2, while certainly US is not the darling of the Muslim world at present, supporting Israel in such an endeavor is going to push the relationship to an all time low and maybe beyond repair...too much needs sorting out as it is...it is not wise to blindly support Israel here...

Why must Israel always be given free license to gain absolute superiority over its adversaries ... all at the expense of USA's relationship with most of the Muslim world?
USA can have a much more secure relationship with a large part of the world if it just stops supporting everything Israel does and instead adopts a more dispassionate stance which looks at both ends of the spectrum...

It may come to pass that the threat is not even genuine...do we really need another act like the one about Iraq and WMDs?
My fear is that US may fail to prevent Israel even if the threat is not genuine...

Israel has a nuclear arsenal so why is it scared if Iran has the potential to make a few Nukes?
Its not like Israel will lose its edge anytime soon...
Iran may talk big but even if they develop a WMD...its not like they will set it off...

In case of India Pakistan, it has actually helped us avoid war...despite war mongering on many occasions...once you have the nuke...you may talk big, but your adventurism is certainly restricted...

BTW in case Israel goes ahead...what do you think will happen in Iraq and Afghanistan?
I see much more violence, chaos and loss of control in such a scenario, what do you see?
