NUST – Now in Balochistan
In a landmark initiative that would go a long way in the economic, social and human resource development of Pakistan’s largest province, the Balochistan Campus of NUST was inaugurated at Quetta on September 13, 2019. Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, NI (M), Chief of the Army Staff & Chairman NUST Board of Governors, graced the occasion as chief guest and unveiled the plaque of the NUST Balochistan Campus (NBC).
The COAS & Chairman NUST Board of Governors said the establishment of NUST Balochistan Campus at Quetta is a project of national significance, and would augur well for the higher education landscape of the province. He maintained that God-willing, the new campus would not only afford quality higher education to the youth of Balochistan at their doorstep, but also train them to play a pivotal role in the projects of national significance, such as China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He also commended the efforts both of NUST and the Pak Army’s Southern Command for the inauguration of NUST Balochistan Campus in the least possible time.
The NUST Balochistan Campus (NBC) has so far been inaugurated under a makeshift arrangement, and by 2021 it would be shifted to the new campus that is currently undergoing fast-paced infrastructural development. To start with, NBC would offer two undergraduate programmes, including BE Civil Engineering and BS Computer Science, with an intake of 50 students in each programme. In the next phase, NUST will launch three specialised programmes at the Masters level in Mining & Tunnelling Engineering, Water Resource Engineering & Management, and Computer Science.
