Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, the headmaster of Narayanganj Piyar Sattar Latif High school has received a death threat.

The death threat was issued on Friday night from a Facebook page named ‘Salahuddin-er Ghora.’

In a post, the Facebook page threatened to kill Shyamal Kanti for ‘insulting Islam.’ It also outlined different techniques to the kill the teacher.

The post called for a killing mission soon and asked to kill any police personnel patrolling near Dhaka Medical College if needed.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Media) Maruf Hossain Sardar told the Dhaka Tribune that police had received the information and they were investigating.

Police personnel are already being kept on alert and security measures have been tightened around DMCH where Shyamal Kanti is admitted, he added.

Meanwhile, Abu Bakker Siddique, Shahbagh police station officer in-charge, also told the Dhaka tribune that surveillance and patrolling has been beefed up since Saturday morning.

Narayanganj Piyar Sattar Latif High School Headmaster Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, whose public humiliation triggered countrywide protests and condemnation, was admitted to DMCH for better medical treatment.

On May 13, Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Narayanganj, was beaten up by a mob and forced by local Jatiya Party lawmaker AKM Salim Osman to do squats holding his ears, on the allegation that he had “demeaned Islam.”

Shyamal later claimed that locals were provoked with false allegations as a group of the school’s teachers held a grudge against him because he had refused to meet their unfair demands.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has condemned the incident and a probe body has been formed to investigate the incident. However, the district police chief said the incident was not a “criminal offence” and law enforcers “could not have done anything.”

ঢাকা মেট্রোপলিটন পুলিশের (ডিএমপি) ফেসবুক পেজে ভিজিটর পোস্টের স্থানে শ্যামলকান্তিকে হত্যার হুমকির বিষয়টি অবগত করেন একজন ব্যক্তি।

ঢাকা মেট্রোপলিটন পুলিশের (ডিএমপি) মিডিয়া অ্যান্ড পাবলিক রিলেশন্স বিভাগের উপ-কমিশনার (ডিসি) মো. মারুফ হোসেন সরদার দ্য রিপোর্টকে জানান, ঢামেক হাসপাতালে শ্যামলকান্তির পর্যাপ্ত নিরাপত্তা ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করা হয়েছে। হুমকির ব্যাপারটিও ক্ষতিয়ে দেখা হচ্ছে।

এর আগে, শুক্রবার দুপুর ১২টার দিকে শ্যামলকান্তি ভক্তকে ঢামেকের ৬০১ নম্বর ওয়ার্ডের মেডিসিন বিভাগে ভর্তি করা হয়। ঢামেক হাসপাতালের জরুরি বিভাগের মেডিকেল অফিসার ডা. সোহেল রানা দ্য রিপোর্ট টুয়েন্টিফোর ডটকমকে জানান, তার মাথা ঘুরছে এবং তার বুকে ব্যথা করছে।

ধর্মীয় অনুভূতিতে আঘাতের অভিযোগে ১৩ মে নারায়ণগঞ্জের পিয়ার সাত্তার লতিফ উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়ের প্রধান শিক্ষক শ্যামলকান্তি ভক্তকে লাঞ্ছিত করে জনতা। স্থানীয় সংসদ সদস্য এ কে এম সেলিম ওসমান সবার সামনে ওই শিক্ষকে কান ধরে ওঠবসও করান। পরে শ্যামলকান্তিকে বরখাস্ত করে বিদ্যালয়ের ম্যানেজিং কমিটি।

এদিকে বৃহস্পতিবার (১৯ মে) শিক্ষামন্ত্রী নুরুল ইসলাম নাহিদ সাময়িক বরখাস্ত প্রধান শিক্ষক শ্যামলকান্তি ভক্তকে স্বপদে বহাল রাখার সিদ্ধান্ত জানান। সেই সঙ্গে পিয়ার সাত্তার লতিফ উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়ের প্রধান শিক্ষক শ্যামলকান্তি ভক্তকে মারধর ও কান ধরে ওঠবস করানো এবং বরখাস্তের ঘটনায় ওই স্কুল পরিচালনা কমিটিকে বাতিল করেন শিক্ষামন্ত্রী।

In more enlightened society there are chaos and disunity on theories except some basic principals. If people stick to something and there are no questions, that gives a clue there are problems.
