Two arrested Bangladeshi immigrants | India Today

As the debate over illegal immigrants intensify with BJP leadership solidly backing CAA amid protests, the local police in Braj region of Uttar Pradesh has actively started tracking down "illegal immigrants" living in the region, and have also arrested a few.

Talking to India Today, Station Head Officer of Vrindavan Kotwali, Sanjeev Dubey said that few of the arrested Bangladeshis have been "illegally" living in Vrindavan since last 8 years.

"They have been living here for past eight years, the intelligence department had been tracking them for some time. The arrested were in possession of forged documents including illegally obtained passport. "

The two recently arrested refugees from Bangladesh are Manav and Keshav. As of now they have been sent to jail after being presented before a magistrate while the investigation continues. The police is also investigating how did they manage to get a passport with forged documents.

When contacted, the duo confirmed to India Today that they were indeed from Bangladesh and entered India twenty years ago. And since then they have been living in different cities across India before settling in Vrindavan.

However, their arrest has also raised eyebrows among the activists living in the region. Social Activist, Rajkumar Nagrath said that the police action against them was surprising in the light of newly amended Citizenship Amendment Act. And that those arrested should have actually been guided to apply for Indian citizenship.

" There may be several other districts across Uttar Pradesh where illegal immigrants from neighbouring countries would be living. Most of them are Hindus from Bangladesh. We should now start the process of granting them citizenship instead of harassing them further," Rajkumar Nagrath said.

Manav and Kesav is not a Bengali hindu name. Period!

They also doesn’t look like a Bengali Hindus as well.

Why does it have to day hindu bangla deshi got arrested? Why can't they just day a bangladeshi got arrested?

Obviously there are. These people more look like Nepalese or Bhutanese. Name also is not common in Bangladesh.
If they are Nepalese or Bhutanese they are fine.

There are Bengalis with Mongoloid features, I assume you do not even know your own people.

I know my people. Or they could be Rohingya hindu! Said they came from Bangladesh!

These guys does not look like Bangladeshis lol. Anyways Bangladesh will gladly take them back if India can prove that they are indeed Bangladeshi citizens, no biggie

Xenophobia against "the others" in NE India is not unknown be it against Indian Bengalis or others. They take every opportunity to persecute them.
These guys do not look Bangladeshi at all.
Good luck proving their "Bangladeshi citizenship" to our Home Ministry.

We are quite unfortunate to be surrounded by cave dwellers.
