What's new

Now comes J-18

Here's another report:
Is China Developing a VSTOL Fighter? - Defense News

The report is complete BS, there is no J-18 and if there is it most definelty is not a STOVL version of the Su-33. For China to make a STOVL version of the SU-33 they would need to redesign it first of all. Also, the SU-33 is incredibly heavy already, if you made it a STOVL aircraft it would literally be one of the heaviest/ if not the heaviest fighter ever created. Plus none of these sources are reliable by any means.

It's doubtful that twin engined fighters are VTOL, but the J-18 is in fact believed to be part of the three stealthy manned projects underway at SAC (J-17, J-18, and J-19). CAC is also building a single engine variant of the J-20, which may include VTOL capability.

VTOL in coming time would be a must. This is not just great for Aircraft carriers.. VTOL also gives a possibility to scatter fighter jets at the time of war and to land them near the areas where ground troops are deployed. Its a must have for China as well as for Pakistan.

I look forward to seeing the actual pictures of the J-18.
