Kim Jong Un thought China would eventually compromise instead of imposing harsh sanctions for fear of pushing NK into USA's embrace. As it turns out, China decided pushing NK into USA's embrace is the lesser evil. So now Kim Jong Un has a choice of allying with USA against China, which would eventually lead to a colored revolution, or he may choose to ally with China, which would bruise NK's national ego.
