He already executed his uncle though? For being too friendly to China?

Or do you mean another uncle, I'm not sure.

He had an older brother living in Macau. If Kim got assassinated, we could put his older brother to lead NK.

No need to get a related one. Any NK top dog officer who support China open market policy will do the job as new leader of NK. Plus removing any Kim's lineage from leadership will give a signal of end of monarchy system. Giving a hope of better governing of NK to North Korean.

A regime change, eh? Too akin to what the US of A has been trying to do in various countries for decades but if this is the only hope for the DPRK, so be it.

Too dangerous right now, buddy, with their 1.2 million man army ? A collapse of the Kim regime would translate to war in the region, and God' knows how many millions of refugees would be pouring into China, South Korea and Japan.

Interventionism is not ideal; holding the status quo is the only favorable positions for Northeast Asia, right now, however.

Won't happen any time soon, however.

I heard he also wiped out the children of his uncle? Is there truth to this? Seems like the young man is becoming more and more the modern day version of Caligula.

North Korea are not Middle East. Trying to compare these korean who long for advancement against those religion fanatic is a bad comparison. I believe north korean army will collapse quickly. They all hate the evil Kim's family and is just fear of execution prevent from expressing their desire openly. China and South Korea open market policy which bring prosperity to masses is all for North Korean to seen.

I must respectfully disagree. The reason why I disagree adamantly because even in Japan there is a significant North Korean presence and North Korean public school systems in the country. Even in Japan, these North Koreans still venerate the Kim Il Sung and the North Korean Identity. Quite interesting actually.

Since we're talking about the consequences of a power vacuum here you've got a point. A calamity may be averted if the power is smoothly transferred to the aforementioned replacements, though.

Ukraine is not a Middle Eastern country either but it is a prominent example where a power vacuum is the cause for the political shenanigans here and renewed tensions between the US-led West and Russia.

As much as I hold disdain for the North Korean Regime, I just am pessimistic in what would happen if a fall in government there would lead to humanitarian issues in the country. 28 million people without a government; guaranteed at least 5-10 million would be pouring into Jilin and Heilongjiang and that would translate into a humanitarian emergency. Imagine what would happen inside the country, or the flooding into South Korea. I can't imagine the boat refugees that would be streaming into Western Japan.

The uncle apparently wanted to replicate China's communist capitalism quicker than Kim was willing to allow. Killed along with his wife, among numerous 'allies' among his circle.

A powerful general because he fell asleep at a same meeting Kim attended.

Not all executions went accordingly, Ri Yong-Ho's bodyguards fought back against Kim's assassins. After he opposed Kim taking control of the economy away from the military.

Interestingly enough these purges are only weakening the system, until the new faces can re-establish the web of control.

Nihonjin, NK leader are no idiot. They will not allow anybody out of NK easily. The Kim is smart to hold these people who can travel out of NK ramsom by keeping their loves one in NK. If they act anyway against NK interest when overseas. They will not see their love one like mother , father or sibling anymore. Do you think these young NK school girl in Japan or China who are specially allow to travel overseas can openly display their distaste of Kim leadership easily? Of cos these overseas NKorean are instructed or trained to act in according to interest of leader Kim before allow to go overseas.

Ask how many illegal NKorean who escaped still sing praises of Leader Kim?
