North Korea on Monday again threatened to launch nuclear strikes on the United States and South Korea, as the two countries started their annual joint military drills.

"The army and people of the (North) will take military counteraction for preemptive attack so that they may deal merciless deadly blows at the enemies," the North’s National Defense Commission said.
"If we push the buttons to annihilate the enemies even right now, all bases of provocations will be reduced to seas in flames and ashes in a moment,” it added.
South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman Moon Sang Gyun told reporters: "If North Korea launches a provocation, our military will respond sternly and mercilessly."

CIA? The only one who REALLY know what is 'Tae Po Dong' is North Korean. So nothing new here.

A little country with Big balls. You just have to give them that. Without the nuke, the Kim might have met the fate of Saddam. Now it is a tough nut to crack, even for the mighty USA.

Can North Korean missiles really reach the US? North Korea says they can. But is it just a massive bluff when in fact their technology is highly primitive?

Huh? o_O I've been posting constantly.

So tell me, honestly, you think these new rounds of sanctions will prove effective? enforceable ?

Well, who's to say, right? I mean, who would've thought an antiquated North Korean sub could also sink a South Korean naval anti-sub corvette, right? :)

With all heads on board, by the way.

North Korea's army is far larger than Iraq's. Plus South Korea doesn't really want reunification because it would ruin them. These factors are more important than nukes in explaining the difference.

No. I think as isolated and eccentric as Kim Jong-un is, the deterrence is in the fact that any pre-emptive use of nuclear weapons by him, will result in the total destruction of his regime and bring catastrophic retaliation on his country. No North Korea would be allowed to survive.

Damage will be, drum roll -- please, collateral. Any war that would lead to the 'destruction' of North Korea would also leave a molten Seoul and if contingency is uncontrolled, even Tokyo. Do you think South Koreans and Japanese would wish their progressive societies to be devastated to proliferate and to support securitized proposals? Ultimately, and reflectively, we have to consider backdoor operations that are taking place as we speak.

Its been close to over 60 years now since the cease of hostilities between Pyongyang and Seoul. Why start now?

I think as isolated and eccentric as Kim Jong-un is,

You mean, no more than America's questionable portrayal of his father, right? :)
