North Korea Attacks South Korea - Latest Update

i guess south should simply take control of north... why keep a pain in the a**e for a long time... change the regime.. make it democratic... unify the country...

This is proof that new members need to pass a basic aptitude test before becoming full members.

Damn this is crazy :frown:

I really hope this doesn't turn into a larger problem

This is getting out of hand. Hope US dont mess things up and everything gets back well and fine..

Agree. The N.Korean's have overstepped the line this time, this is only bad news for an increasingly fragile region.

"South Korea's military responded with 80 rounds of artillery and deployed fighter jets to counter the fire, the report said."
"North Korean artillery is extremely difficult to hit, because it is dug into coastal cliffs."

.
I just want to see S.korean Air force shooting down all of the north's.

. . . . .
What provoked the shelling??? Was there something else behind the scene that mainstream media is not aware of or not interested in reporting ??? We will perhaps never know coz we will always hear one side of the story ....

This however does goes to show what kind of dangerous world are we living in ... A small incident could in no time escalate into a global conflict ...

and don't forget Koreans are still officially at war .... i feel sorry for the Koreans people .... they are being used as proxies by USA and China for their own agendas for decades ....

USA will never let them sign peace treaty because than it will not be able to force more sanctions on North and China will keep North strong to do its dirty work ....

This incident was perhaps result of the escalating currency war between USA and China ....

Anyway just hope and pray that it ends as it normally does with South Korea being battered housewife .... They keep getting kicked, punched and verbally abused, and all they do is say "oh, it's okay honey....it was my fault. I totally deserved to have the crap kicked outta me."

I just love the unscrupulous ingenuity of the chinese. Brilliant. So whats the purpose of long-leashing the mad dog(DPRK) now?
Contrary to popular beliefs, China doesn't have that much control over North Korea.

If they do, then
1. NK today would be pseudo-communist and had or is undergoing economic reform, China have been pressing them for some time already
2. NK would not have developed nuclear weapons as it is directly against Chinese interest, since it could spark regional countries to develop their own.

DPRK fires artillery onto S. Korean island, S. Korea fires back - People's Daily Online November 23, 2010

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) fired Tuesday scores of artillery onto a South Korean island and also into waters off the west coast of the Korean peninsula near a tense maritime border, Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said.

Reportedly fired at 2:34 p.m. local time, some shells landed on South Korea's Yeonpyeong Island and local residents are currently moving to shelters. Two have been injured while authorities are still checking on casualties, according to YTN television.

South Korea fired some 30 artillery shells back in response, and the military is now put on the heightened alert.

The exchanges of fire came when South Korea was engaged in massive annual military exercises involving some 70,000 troops, launched Monday and scheduled to last through Nov. 30.

north korea is not a communist society. it is a feudal monarchy that claims to be communist. it is what saudi arabia would look like if it had no oil.

it is/was a useful political tool, however.
