Hehe, this is the North Korea's version of the "Cultural Revolution". The difference is the Chinese cultural revolution lasted about 20 years while the North Korea's has been going on for over 60 years
For their ability to last this long, @DoTell , i commend them. In fact the bravado they show and the 'devotion' to their supreme leader is reminiscent of Imperial Shintoism of yesteryears. Seeing North Korean patriotism is poignant for Japanese. As we can take a gander from their sense of fervent nationalism, actually. I believe we lost what they have.
In a good way. North Korea , in a way, has preserved that aspect we had lost.

When everyone in a society is made to believe only one ideology, extremism forms. Natzism in Germany, Maoism in China, stalin leninism in Russia as well as the radical Muslim in the middle east etc are extremism that led to massive destruction.
Democracy on the surface is supposed to suppress extremism. But it has its own shortcomings. Some people believe democracy is a system of fit all, cure all. They'd try by all means to bring about democracy to every country in the world. I say we need to be careful here, because that is dangerously close to forming another extremism, "democrazism". That word is probably invented by me since I haven't seen it used
