Badruddin Ajmal responsible for mass exodus, alleges AASU

The influential All Assam Students Union today held prominent minority leader and president of the All India United Democratic Front Badaruddin Ajmal responsible for the mass exodus and fear psychosis among students and persons of the Northeast.

"There is a fear psychosis among students in the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra as a direct result of the communal politics played by Ajmal," AASU advisor Samujjal Bhattacharjee alleged in a press conference here.

The student body warned Ajmal "not to give communal colour to the violence in Assam" and appealed to the students not to panic and refrain from rushing back.

The former student leader said he had personally talked to the Karnataka Chief Minister and Home Minister who have assured all security.

He said at least three overcrowded trains would be reaching here from Bangalore tomorrow and that thousands of panic-stricken people were stranded in various stations of those states including Secunderabad.

The former student leader claimed that a person from Kokrajhar who had gone to Andhra Pradesh to help two other persons who were injured was thrown out of a running train near Palasa and killed.

"Sanjib Roy of Kokrajhar was mercilessly thrown out of a running train near the Palasa railway station in Andhra Pradesh's Srikakulam district on August 14 as he was escorting two of his friends," he alleged.

Bhattacharjee said his body was still lying at the Sompeta government hospital and demanded that the Centre and state governments take measures to get it back to the state.

Squarely blaming Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for "failing to control the violence in the state and elsewhere", Bhattacharjee alleged that as the head of the state "his policies have failed to protect lives and property of people".

Demanding that post-1971 migrants from Bangladesh leave Assam as per the provisions of the Assam accord, he said no person suspected to be an illegal immigrant should be rehabilitated.

According to a senior source, dealing with internal security in the Union government, the Mumbai [ Images ] violence on August 11 was pre-planned.

Two people died at Mumbai's Azad Maidan during the protests over the violence in Assam and Myanmar.

Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims lived happily alongside in many places in India. And then, all of a sudden, Hindu friends and neighbours burnt and killed thousands of Muslim men, women and children in Modi's Gujarat without any fault of theirs. Why was Babri Mosque destroyed.

Why was the holiest of Sikh shrine destroyed and Sikhs in Punjab killed as if they were not human beings. Why were thousands of innocent Sikh men, women and children were killed in the streets of Delhi in the aftermath of Indra Gandhi's death.

You need to keep your eyes open, while you are living with peaceful saffron clad RSS stalwarts.

Muslims appeal North-East people to stay in Bangalore

Muslim leaders and Islamic organisations Thursday appealed to the northeast people, especially students, to remain in Bangalore and not to believe in rumours that they would be attacked in retaliation to the recent Assam ethnic violence. "Don't leave Bangalore, dear Assamese friends. We love you!" and "Bangalore is safe. No need to fear. Stay back" are some of the slogans on placards carried by about 50 members of the Students Islamic Organisation of India at the city railway station.

Even as police scotched rumours of retaliatory attacks on northeast people after Ramadan as a backlash, Muslim leaders in the city warned anti-social elements against spreading rumours, circulating mischievous messages or threatening anyone, especially people from northeast.

"We condemn all those who are indulging in rumour-mongering and causing panic among the northeast people, especially students who have been residing in Bangalore or cities across the state over the years. There is no truth in what is being falsely spread or circulated through SMS or social media. Don't believe in them and leave the city," a member of the Bangalore Islamic Foundation Trust told IANS on anonymity.

Alarmed over reports that a section of the minority community was behind the rumours, Students Islamic Organisation of India member Tauseef Ahmad told IANS that it was unfortunate that they (Muslims) were being blamed for the wild rumours without being investigated or substantiated.

"It is for police to investigate who is behind such rumours and punish the guilty. How can anyone be accused of threatening the northeast people, including students, of revenge for some violence in Assam with which they are in no way connected," Ahmad said.
