CHENNAI: In an apparent reference to China, Vietnam today asserted that "nobody" could prevent India's oil exploration efforts in its country, stating it was being undertaken in Hanoi's exclusive territorial waters.

He was responding to a query on China opposing exploration activities in South China Sea.

"We always welcome that (Indian investments). It is there already. The first gas exploration project was started in 1988 by ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation). Now, it is exploring some more blocks in Vietnam," Ambassador of Vietnam to India Ton Sinh Thanh told reporters here.

Stating that the projects were awarded in the territorial waters of Vietnam to India, he said, "India's exploration of oil and gas is in exclusively economic zone of Vietnam. So, nobody can prevent it".

In October 2014, China had cautioned that it would firmly oppose any exploration activity in South China Sea if it undermines its sovereignty and interests, hours after India inked pact with Vietnam for exploration in two additional oil and gas blocks in the resource-rich area.

On tourist arrivals from India to Vietnam, the Ambassador said it was increasing 100 per cent every year and was at 55,000 people in 2014.

"There is a 100 per cent increase. Last year 55,000 people from India visited Vietnam. This year, we expect another 100 per cent increase," he said.

Speaking about the trade relations between the two countries, he said, "Vietnam trade with India stood at USD 5.5 billion last year. We export electronic products, sea food, rice, black pepper to India."

On India's corporate presence, Thanh said there were 85 companies with investments of about USD one billion in Vietnam. They included major Indian automobile players like Bajaj AutoBSE 0.00 % and Hinduja group flagship company Ashok LeylandBSE 0.44 %.

On investments made by Vietnam companies in India, he said, "A few hundred Vietnamese communities are present in India."

Thanh and senior officials were here to inaugurate the third VFS Visa Application Centre after setting up similar centres in Kolkata and Hyderabad.

Indian frontline warships test waters in South China sea

Need to see it more often. Need an Indian naval squadron dedicated to the SCS based at Cam Ranh bay base.

And of course we would not mind having a few Brahmos coastal batteries and a few other things such as Brahmos M and Brahmos ll later on.

Also would not mind some help to produce under license things like Nirbhay and longer range ballistic missiles.

Vietnam offers Naval Base to India
In October, Vietnam signed an agreement giving Indian naval ships base facilities at its ports. India, in turn, agreed to help Hanoi expand its naval logistics capabilities, and to train its army in jungle warfare.

Yesterday, navy chief Admiral Devendra Kumar Joshi had said his force was also practising to deploy in waters that China claims in the South China Sea to protect India’s oil interests off the coast of Vietnam. Reuters reported today that Vietnam, which allotted two blocks to India’s ONGC Videsh Limited, has stepped up patrolling its waters in the South China Sea.

One thing I want to say, I ask this to a very senior DRDO's scientist. That why India not exporting BrahMos?

He told me, BrahMos never going to export, its only meant for India. And not even Russia ever procure them. The BrahMos is with India and partially Israel origin electronics, solely for Indian environment with network centric warfare environment, that supported by Indian military satellites, and India never share its military satellite with anyone. All the missile would be guided by IRNSS in future. Even if Russia able to export VLS version of Amur, then it would never be BrahMos.

So, my conclusion is nope, India may deploy its own warship permanently in Vietnam by end of this decade or next decade ( if Vietnam request it for protecting Indian nationals and Indian infrastructure in SCS ), but India never going to export BrahMos or Nirbhay, or any of its capital ship. Because all Indian capital ships are only meant for Indian environment, and its useless in other navies.

Its crystal clear now, and now its written on the wall. The USA-Japan-Vietnam-Singapore-India-Australia military alliance is inevitable.

And for Indonesia and Malaysia the doors always remain open.

No one thinking, that Indonesia had claims in Andaman and Nicobar, maybe in future that desire also arise, and join chinese nexus.

Interesting, I didn't know about that.

Well, Indonesia buys weapons from China and actually, Russia believes that Indonesia is the one that gave a sample of a Yakhont missile to China, which is why the chinese were able to make a copy.

Lol, alliance is inevitable.

But question is Indonesia join that alliance, or make its counter claim in A&N and join China nexus.

No. my emoticons are about what you said about exporting Brahmos.

What is their reasoning for the claims?
