Trump is right to question why such wealthy countries as Kuwait, Macao, Mexico, Qatar, Singapore, South Korea, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates are granted privileges as developing countries?

He's actually right on this issue that the WTO has to be updated, just that countries like Indonesia should still be classified as developing.

Anyway for Singapore, we don't take advantage of the special privileges in trade agreements even though we are granted by the WTO.

Developing country status in the WTO allows governments longer timelines for implementing free trade commitments, as well as the ability to protect some domestic industry and maintain subsidies.

In response to CNA’s queries, an MTI spokesperson said: “Singapore does not take advantage of the flexibilities provided by special and differential treatment (SDT) at the WTO in negotiating agreements.

“For instance we committed to implement the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement upon entry into force, instead of seeking a transition period.”

The spokesperson added that Singapore fully supports the importance of updating WTO rules to ensure the organisation’s continued relevance.

"We are key partners in discussions on strengthening and updating the WTO. Our role as co-convener in the WTO Joint Statement Initiative on E-Commerce is an example," said MTI.

Singapore joined the WTO as a developing country many decades ago just like many other countries on that list, and it wasn't updated.

According to the World Bank, a developed country is defined as having a nominal GNI per capita of above $12K.

first, There r thousand Vn fishing boats fishing inside the disputed zone (40,000 km2) and ALL get full insurance (if arrested by ID warship, then they will get full paid from insurance ). even if the news is true (I dont see the news said they were arrested in the disputed zone), then 3 ships mean Nothing over thousand ships there (not mentioning they get full insurance).

First there will be no full scale war or atleast not in this decade or the decade after. The only thing that will happen is indonesia getting away with arresting vietnam fishermen and it is something that vuetnamese will have to live with.
