Removing the ship from the area was a tactical necessity, but it was a tactic, in the end. China's strategy in the SCS is long-hauled and harmonious, based on negotiation and win-win compromise. With its scale and might, otherwise, China could have for long gobbled up all the islands that are currently claimed by others but can easily be recovered. But China restraints itself.
