Nirbhay’ missile set for test-firing next month

Sorry to ruin your party but the Nirbhay is a two stage missile. The propulsion system consists of a solid fuel rocket motor that serves as its first stage and accelerates the the missile after launch to cruise speed when a turbojet engine in the second stage takes over.

In other words, unlike the Tomahawk which has a turbofan engine, the Nirbhay has a turbojet engine.

The TJ (Turbojet) engines are efficient only at very high speeds whereas the TFs (Turbofans) are more efficient in subsonic and in low-middle mach 1s. But I'm surprised that the Nirbhay has the TJs engines to power it because its 'loiter capability' will be affected considerably due to its speed. Strange why they didn't have a turbofan propulsion system instead which is more efficient.

Not into much of missiles, unfortunately

Ultimately its a bomb. Its lethality depends on its accuracy and its versatility. Once those factors are tested and if they work according to specifications, am sure it will be as lethal as the tomahawk.

Oh yes. These missiles would also go aboard the P 15B DDGs of IN which will give us a lethal
long-range standoff strike on the naval front where such warships far out at sea will be pounding
enemy coastal installations & bases with these missiles.

Future versions of Nirbhay like Nirbhay-II/III would also arrive hopefully by 2015 and 2018 with
ranges of 1,500km and 2,200 km respectively. IMO, that is

It's news to me that A.K. Antony developed the missile.
