Nigel Farage: £350 million pledge to fund the NHS was 'a mistake'

Nigel Farage has admitted that it was a "mistake" to promise that £350million a week would be spent on the NHS if the UK backed a Brexit vote.

Speaking just an hour after the Leave vote was confirmed the Ukip leader said the money could not be guaranteed and claimed he would never have made the promise in the first place.

The pledge was central to the official Vote Leave campaign and was controversially emblazoned on the side of the bus which shuttled Boris Johnson and Michael Gove around the country.

Campaigners promised to use the money the UK reportedly sends to the EU to fund the health service instead.

Asked by ITV's Good Morning Britain whether he could guarantee that the £350m that was sent to the EU would now go the NHS, Mr Farage said: “No I can’t, I would never have made that claim.

"That was one of the mistakes made by the Leave campaign.”

Wow. This guy just left our politicians in the dust on promises.. After just one hour he back tracked from his statement and that slogan was the difference between 52-48. Many people would have loved that money to go towards their health service improving the nations health care which created the difference...

This is becoming a mess.

should split three ways, 1 part for NHS, 1 part schools, 1 part infrastructure

and you need to remember Nigel Farage isn't part of UK parliament he had no say on how that money would be spent in the first place.

I`m curious, the parliament has the last word. They have the right to ignore the result and could say because of the minimal difference, they are not bound at this.

the damage is done and if there was a second referendum no doubt it would be "remain" or it'd be another massacre in the stock market.

I bet a lot of people are resetting LEAVE
the stock market took a 10% sh!t. the hope of a new referendum will send the markets sky high. and now people are talking of the consequences which mean the retards who vote leave will see the sence.

thats not going to happen.. only way parliament can do it is by having a general election and party promising to ignore referendum comes to power.. that will be political suicide for any party.(to void the referendum).... both sides have accepted its over.

market will bounce back in a month or two... everybody predicted short term pain.. including the leave side so its expected.

I am shocked at how bad the world took this. I was sure UK would get two years to negotiate with the EU. they still can and hopefully get some concessions from the EU

just real no leadership for a UK out of EU, is Boris going to be PM? what is Nigel going to do now? what about Northern Ireland and Scotland what do they want to do now? just so many unanswered questions...

my personal opinion is the EU is doomed for failure no matter what!! if it's not the UK leaving it would be another state or you'd have more bail outs for Greece,Portugal etc etc just delaying the inevitable.

I do hope you all work it out though

market is no measure of actual damage, we dont know whether there is net gain or net loss to UK. You cant put a price on large scale anarchy due to resentment of the masses. Good that this referendum acted as safety valve.

Mainly people only voted out because they don't want non English people coming here, Close the borders, no refugees and no European workers taking our jobs!!

Idiots
