New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday claimed to have solved the September 7 Delhi High Court blast case. Sources say that the investigators have found that the blast was carried out by Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI) and the conspiracy to target the Delhi High Court was hatched in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources say the NIA has detained a HuJI operative, Aamir alias Hafiz, from Jammu and Kashmir. Aamir, who goes by several other aliases, has been identified as the mastermind of the blast. He is believed to have planned the attack with at least five other HuJI operatives.
The NIA is investigating the role of a group of seven people led by Aamir in the blast case. The investigators zeroed in on Aamir after questioning the two class XI students who were arrested for sending the e-mail claiming that HuJI carried out the blast.
The group which planned and the executed the Delhi High Court blast included the two students whose roles were limited to sending out the e-mail. NIA cyber forensic experts established that the time of the computer used to send the e-mail on behalf of HuJI was tampered with to mislead the investigators.
The five adults, all aged between 25 to 30 years, of the group were involved in actual planning and executing the blast while the minors were used for sending the HuJI e-mail.
The two minors arrested in Kishtwar also took part in the meeting where the plan to carry out the blast was finalised. The duo is related to two terrorists who had surrendered to Jammu and Kashmir Police two years ago.
The five HuJI operatives, who actually carried out the bombing, reportedly arrived in New Delhi on September 5 and carried out the attacks on September 7.
According to the sources the materials used in the blast was highly sophisticated and complex, which is almost impossible for a local gang to assemble and operate. However, they added that the nature of the material used was such that the explosive could not have been made in Kishtwar and then sent to Delhi.
HuJI had two separate wings, one of which is based out of Bangladesh and other operates from Pakistan. HuJI has been very active in Kishtwar area of Jammu and Kashmir since 2007.
However, the terror outfit had not sent an e- mail in any of the earlier blasts that have been linked with HuJI.
After the source of the e-mail was traced to the Global Cyber Cafe in Kishtwar, the NIA was able to move in quickly and find evidence in the blast case.
An FIR has already been registered against unnamed persons under Section 153 A, 120 RPC (Enemy of State), 66 Information Technology Act and 13 Unlawful Activity Act.
The FIR was registered on the ground that Kishtwar police was informed by its counterpart in New Delhi that investigation of an e-mail claiming responsibility of the blast has been traced to a cyber cafe in Kishtwar.
The blast on September 7 claimed the lives of 14 people and injured 91 others.
