NHA to build Sialkot-Kharian-Rawalpindi Motorway 115KM

"He further said, NHA is planning to undertake five more projects on Public Private Partnership basis in the future which include 70km Sialkot-Kharian Motorway, 115km Kharain-Rawalpindi Motorway, 294km Pindi Bhattian-Multan Motorway, 43km Nowshera-Peshawar Expressway and 50km Karachi Northern ByPass from 2 lane highway to 4 lane motorway. These projects will be completed at an estimated of cost of $1,830 million. He informed that total length of NHA’s road network is 13,128km and 80% of the country’s commercial traffic is attached to its network."

Amazing news for people who live around GT road. Now it will only take about 1 hour to reach Pindi/ISB from Kharian instead of 2+ hours on GT road.

This mean Lahore-Sialkot motorway will be extended to Islamabad. This route will be shorter by 70km compared to current ISB-LHR motorway which never made sense, but current motorway will be put to good use by traffic coming from south.

Maybe work will start after Sialkot-Lahore motorway is completed.

Something we need to promote more; especially when adding small amenities (in this case rest stops every 50 km) along the roadside alongside the nation's natural beauty can make it a big draw. What other amenities should be made along the roadside? (small local based tourist attractions/ unique amusement parks; adventure spots)

That will be great . This will actually be GT road converted into Motorway. Will ruin all the business on M2 coz distance between Islamabad and Lahore will be shortened by 100 KM making trip to Islamabad a 2 hours trip

Nope, it will be brand new route. Not current GT road converted in to motorway.

From Lahore it will go through Sialkot north eastern punjab instead of Gujranwala-Gujrat GT road.
