New Tempest video NEW engine (Rolls Royce)

Till to date the Rolls Royce are unchallenged in Engine design and manufacturing, even US companies come second. Their TRENT series are the only safest engines most airliners prefer. The Russians and Chinese are decades behind RR in its Engine Metallurgical MIX. Regarding TEMPEST it looks like a very interesting concept, definitely it will end up more costlier than the F35 series. The thing that interested me more in the video clip was the energy/heat management and balance involved around the engine. Surely reminded me of the early 90s when i did my masters in "Process Integration" from UMIST.

Dude, I graduated from UMIST in the mid-nineties !!!!! Wow !!! Bachelors for me... Didn't think there was a fellow UMIST'er lurking here.

my two cents. RR is losing market in US. More GE engines used instead of RR.
UK and EU to a large extent lack the ambition to invest on next generation fighter. Even China invest more than EU combined. Russia invest on stealthy jet and long range bomber with 1.5 trillion GDP.
Without those big commercial and military projects, RR's fate is uncertain. RR investor won't invest without a market and profit on the horizon.
China on the other hand, invest no matter it's profitable or not. Actually the market is there, China need to replace 1000+ 737 and maybe later on 1000+ 320 neo.

The single biggest market is 737 and 320. RR failed to get not a single contract. Both 737 and 320 use either CFM International or Pratt & Whitney.

Less planes are being ordered now anyway, so the market is seeing a reduction in size. Better overhaul facilities and longevity of airframes negates the need to 'buy new'. Orders even prior to the Covid crisis were being cut. RR has an extensive share of the maintenance and overhaul market.
It's also too early to say how the market will take shape. From 2018, P&W powered A330s (21 aircraft). The market leader (for the third year running) was the Rolls-Royce Trent 700 powered Airbus A330, taking a fifty percent market share with 24 aircraft transitioned.

We had this just before the crisis;

The Air France-KLM Group has ordered 10 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, all of which will be powered by the Trent XWB engine which is manufactured at its site in Sinfin.

Buy anyway this is off-topic, the thread is based on the new engine, and it's military applications.

How about UK first focuses on getting its Army back in the size it should. UK should not be less than 120000 but they are bringing it down to 55000 which is the most disastrous step UK could take.
Unlike Pakistan, British mindset is different.
People in Pakistan push their army into combat and then run away.
In case of loss, also insult the army for eternity.
In Britain when the time comes, the entire nation becomes the army.
Every win or loss is the entire nation's, not just the army's.
While in Pakistan , celebrating 1965 is criticized by the good for nothing youth and liberals, in UK they still pay homage to WW1 soldiers .

Good to know i have a UNI mate here, stayed in Manchester for a year for this purpose. What did you graduate in, i did my first degree from PU in Chemical Engineering.

We in the UK do not need a standing Army of 120k soliders. Hell, we dont even need a standing army of 55k.. What will they do? The UK needs a stronger navy and stronger airforce. The Army is pretty much irrelevant.. only useful for helping out with UK floods from time to time, etc..

The Tory c*nts have been cutting the forces. I believe force numbers shouldn't drop below 100,000. We have a 67 million population.....
Look at France.
Anyway off-topic.

Co-development bro. Turkey has expertise. Jump on board.
The risks of it going to third parties are also low .
It all depends on the British mindset after Brexit,it looks positive for now.

This needed it's own thread, impressive developments regarding what will power the future 6th generation Tempest.
I saw Nigel Farage laughing in the background.
I hope, UK will rise again.

So what makes it a "6th" generation? We know what defined a 5th gen aircraft and that was stealth or low observable features in the design, internal weapons bays, low IR signature as well as super cruise. So curious here what makes this Tempest, or what qualifies it to be a "6th" generation aircraft? What are the requirements to be met?
