Deobandis have lost their credibility. Wait and see how they are hated among Indian muslims, they same way pakistani muslims hate their mullas.

Deobandis dont represent anybody, except themselves.

if modi is a devil then what about rajiv gandhi.why his conduct during 1984 riots is different from modi. why liberal media and activist don't take the issue of 1984 riots victims .just because it involved congress and its goons they kept quite and glorified rajiv gandhi.

APJ Abdul Kalam thrilled by Gujarat's high growth

After Deoband Darul Uloom chief Maulana Ghulam Mohammad Vastanvi, it is now India's missile man and former President A P J Abdul Kalam who has showered praise on the high agricultural growth that Gujarat has witnessed over the past five to six years.

"Gujarat registered a sustained agricultural growth of 7 to 9 per cent over the past six years which was far ahead of the country's national average growth of just about 2.5 to 3 per cent," Kalam told a large gathering of farmers invited to a meet organised under the auspices of Raja Lakshmeshwar Singh Society for Education, Welfare and Awareness, in memory of the erstwhile ruler of the princely state of Basti, Uttar Pradesh.

"On making enquiries from researchers at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, where a case study had been carried out on this issue, I was told that the unparalleled growth rate was achieved by the Gujarat government through schemes under public-private partnership and initiation of several innovative programmes."

Describing the measures undertaken by the Gujarat government as unique, he said, "Firstly, they created a dedicated power grid for agriculture to ensure uninterrupted 24 hour supply to the rural areas, where revolutionary steps were taken to improve upon the irrigation system whereby 20,000 hectares of arid land was turned into a rich agriculture area."

He said, "A special 'one pond per farmer' scheme brought about an appreciable increase in the water table by 3-12 metres and new avenues were created to link productivity with income through a sustainable agro-industrial policy."

Kalam sought to make it loud and clear, "The message I wish to convey is that when there is committed leadership with a vision, which is able to bring all the stake holders together to realise the mission with unity of minds and system oriented approach to solve the issues even in agriculture, the productivity increase in food production can be achieved."

In Vastan, Maulana’s family a symbol of harmony

The vice chancellor of Darul-Uloom, Maulana Ghulam Vastanvi, may be in news for his remarks directed at chief minister Narendra Modi, but his family living in a village in south Gujarat is an example of communal harmony, and social and economic progress.

Vastanvi’s family lives in Vastan village of Mangrol taluka in Surat district.

Vastanvi, who was made V-C of the famous Islamic institution in Deoband in UP in January second week, courted controversy when he reportedly said that Muslims in Modi’s Gujarat had progressed, hinting that “he was forgiving Modi for the 2002 riots”.

This raised protests from among students of Darul-Uloom and Vastanvi offered to quit.

In Vastan, the Vastanvis are the only Muslim family. Village sarpanch Daulat Gamit says that Vastanvis’ original surname was Randera, but after living in the village for past many years, they have adopted the current surname. “This has certainly given a special status to the village,” Gamit said.

The Vastanvi family has been living there for decades without any problem and fear. The bonding between this sole Muslim family and the Hindus there has grown so strong that the whole village accepts them as an integral part of the larger village family.

“We never feel Vastanvi family is different from us. They have always helped the villagers in every possible manner, even financially. There is a deep understanding between the Vastanvis and Hindus here and that has prevented any untoward incident from taking place in the village so far,” the sarpanch said.

The Vastanvis share the same sentiment. “For us, Vastan is the safest place on the planet. Hindus here have protected us like their dear ones during the worst of times. I will not leave this village at any cost,” said Ibrahim Vastanvi, Maulana’s younger brother. What is noteworthy about this tribal-dominated village with a population of 700 is that it has never been affected by any communal violence.

“Never have they made us feel like we belong to some other community. During marriages and other religious functions, everybody in the village enjoys the occasion,” Ibrahim said.

The younger Vastanvi is considered to be a progressive and modern farmer in south Gujarat. He was felicitated by chief minister Modi at a function some 18 months back.

Ibrahim says that there is enormous development in Gujarat and people have left behind the worst experiences of the past. “With the state growing, Muslims are becoming an integral part of it,” he said.
