What's new

New Border facilities have been provided on Tạftạn at Pak Iran border for visitors.

Great to See an Immigration Office there. Something this border needs.

Although one can always say for the amount of Architectural pedigree both countries boasts, this looks like a vaccination Camp at some festival

The buildings in the UK that were built in the 1960s, are similarly awful, the ugly tower blocks, public libraries etc.
Agreed. But at least they are minimalist by design and have better build quality - although that is not say much. The Pakistani buildings are using concrete but instead of going minimalist they try to by artistic and the result is awful. Build quality is even poorer. Take a look at Supreme Court Building in Islamabad. You tell me seriously does that fit a 200 million nation. We have a fantastic historical buildings - why not uses their facades to inspire a modern version? This is not about cost. It's about using symmetry, colours, matariels to create the right effect.

Look at the Pakistan monument in Islamabad. It is awful design. Can you imagine if a huge structure inspired by Makli Necroplis like this [below] would look at the top of where Pakistan Monument was built? It would have been Islamabad's version of Arc de Triumf, Paris. Using basic white background with turquoise and few lines of black would look like? Imagine lit up at night? It would present a awesome sight across all of Islamabad and become a inconic site.

The mosque in bahria, Karachi certainly seems to cut a sight to behold. I hope now they use right colours and in the right amount. This is what monumental architecture should look like.

I think border fencing should be extended to Pak-Iran border as well when the funds are available and Pakistan and Iran should do it jointly because both countries have suffered from cross border activities.
The Iranians already have almost finished building a ditch, fencing and forts on their side.

Well ,as I said the beauty is subjective...what looks beautiful to you ...may not look beautiful to me and vice-versa... I love Pakistan monument in Islamabad and you called it awful and what you suggested from makli gave me shudders of disdain..I have been to London and I didn't like most of the architecture especially the old one other than the London bridge.

@Indus Pakistan

Out of all structures in Pakistan, you have chosen this one to criticize?

800px-Blue_Hour_at_Pakistan_Monument.jpg

Why?

It looks beautiful.
Exactly, I find it immensely beautiful structure... so I said beauty is subjective and his own taste is not that great, he has a different taste. Also I love the building of the SC though I can't say the same for the judges or the judicial system as whole :) He finds old London buildings as classic and I don't like them at all...

It looks beautiful.
I agree it is not as ugly as what Mr Vedat Dalokay [your countryman] inflicted on Islamabad with Shah Faisel Mosque or the even more uglier Parliament Building designed by American Edward Stone. But you have to see islamabad. It lies in a stunning geographic location. Mountains behind it, level plains in front, lakes on one side, with small hill adjacent. The Pakistan mounment was built on the hill. The blank canvas could have been used to build something that would match anything in the world. As it is, it is okay but the location deserved something better.

btw: We have similar debates in Turkey, too.

Currently, this mosque is being build in Istanbul, Taksim Square.

There is a huge discussion regarding its architectural design. What's your opinion?

Wow, so now you're exposing your bad taste since Faisal Mosque is one of the most beautiful and iconic structures...very different, very futuristic and technically very advanced structure that has such a huge hall without any ugly columns and pillars and beams rather an open hall and a structure that can withstand many earthquakes ... I think you should stick to your ugly British architecture which I never found attractive.

Fantastic. I can see the neo-Ottoman lines. I love Turkish architecture. it is iconic and that is what makes Istanbul such a stunning place.

Compare that to Shah Faisel Mosque.

Mr. Dalokay is from Elazig - just like me. :)

SF Mosque resembles a bedouin tent and that is the reason why they did not build this mosque in Ankara.

Pity he is dead. You could have lodged my complaint to him in person !

Do you know how many "bedouins huts" we have in Pakistan. Non. But I guess he who pays the dollars got to decide and Ankara escaped but Islamabad got shafted. What you got to appreciate is the location. It is just stunning. When I first went their i was gobsmacked. The mountain rising in almost what appears to be vertical behind is location that deserved better. And close up it looks hideous. It's like a huge multi storey car park.

But alas ....

This is the first design of the Faisal Mosque which was intended to be built in Ankara.

Instead of this project, they built this:

Well I like the current design of the Faisal Mosque and my parent's house is not that far from it so every time I visit Islamabad, I visit Faisal Mosque to pray there.. I love it.

There's a huge debate whether this mosque is representing European influence or not.

It's still infintely better then SF. From afar with the stunning location it's okay but close up it is study in ugliness.
