New Armor Boosts ANA Capabilities

The Afghan National Army (ANA) will increase their capabilities as a fighting force with the addition of the Mobile Strike Force Vehicle (MSFV).

“These vehicles will give the ANA an armored capability that they can use as the coalition forces draw down,” said British Maj. Tim Jones, NATO Training Mission- Afghanistan, Deputy Commander- Army program manager for Mobile Strike Force.

MSFV’s will be disbursed throughout seven Kandaks (battalions); four located in Kabul with a brigade headquarters and three near Kandahar with a brigade headquarters. Each Kandak will receive 58 MSFV’s in a three-variant mix of 31 Armored Personnel Carriers with Turret, 24 Armored Personnel Carriers with Objective Gunners Protective Kit (OGPK) and three Armored Ambulances.

“MSFV’s have numerous capabilities which will really help us to improve our fighting such as; armor, and electronically fired weapons,” said ANA Sgt. Rohullah.

ANA soldiers will receive 18 weeks of training from Armored Branch School on the three different vehicle types. The first part is Operator New Equipment training and the Field Level Maintainer training. The second phase is a ten- week tactical training phase taught by French mentors followed by a six-week consolidation phase.

“The goal for the Armored Branch School is have the Afghans all trained up to the point that by the start of training for the 7th Kandak, the Afghans will be self sustained and training themselves,” said John B. Simpson III, program manager, Afghanistan Operations and Logistics for Textron Marine and Land Systems.

NATO and ISAF should give their equipment to them which is like a Burden to retransport it to their own country and train them and make some facility where they can do maintenance as well. Build new ones that will create job in NATO countries as well.

Never. You never give the same equipment under your use to any third world country, specially when there are good chances that such equipment can cross borders in any direction.

MSFV is a variant of M1117 Armored Security Vehicle.these vehicles are decently armoured and it can carry Grenade Launcher,Machine Gun on top of its turret and Medium Machine Gun in gunner's hatch.This vehicle weighs 15 ton, equipped with all-wheel drive, an automatic transmission, a Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS) and air conditioning.this vehicle will protect soldiers from small arms fire,IED and RPGs.it can take several RPG hits and even if RPG penetrate this vehicle,it'll still be functional.ANA will get 544 of these..

now they need some decent light/medium tank to strengthen their country..

India should green-light the sale of old T-55s, that are in storage after being retired, to Afghanistan as they have requestedm there's nothing the Taliban have that could easily destroy this vehicle and the 100mm gun will squash them like flies.
