New-age commandos with high-end weapons for NSG

Sources said some devices were already available with NSG and the training process had started.

Medhekar said besides improving the arms, armour and hi-tech gadgets for commandos, they had started training the 'Black Cat' commandos deployed as sky marshals and on VIP security in a new form of martial art from Philippines -- Pekiti-Tirsia Kali.

"Presently, our commandos are trained to be both defensive and to go offensive. But in this form of martial arts, there is no defence as compared to judo or karate. It is only offence and the commando rares to eliminate the opponent right from the word go. Even the defensive move is in the form of attack," Medhekar said. In this art, special attention is given to close-quarter fighting.

Any idea if this new batch of ~2000 will be SAG or SRG? my guess/hope is they would be SAG. Also will the existing force of ~10,000 be retrospectively given this training/equipment?

SAG,the SAG has the most important role and is a national asset
SRG is mainly bodyguard force and they are given old gen. MP5's and AK-47 variants

all the high end stuff goes to the SAG,the SRG is not so respected amongst army personnel

Exactly- that's what I thought. SAG are wholly recruited from IA SF. Whilst I don't know how army feel toward SRG as they, like you say, are only for VIP protection and are made up solely from IPS/paramilitary. I'd say SRG is also getting a serious upgrade to match growing threats from more and more advanced terror techniques. But yes SRG is certainly the most important part of NSG and I had thought up till recently all the post-26/11 talk of NSG modernisation had just been more political hot air. But then I saw this vid (???? ???? ??? ????? ??? ??????) and heard this news and I feel much assured another 26/11 would be handled much better and NSG are very prepared and will be even more so in the future.

Agree with you about IA and IN SOFs kit- very good these days. IAF's kit isn't too bad except for assault rifles which need to be/are being replaced.

Regarding SAG recruitment- it seems odd to recruit from SF AND regular infantry as immediately there would be differences in experience and training as well as skill set. I heard IA SF were also concerned with expansion of NSG as it had the danger of taking too many of its officers/JCOs so maybe NSG opened up to more regular IA to gain manpower.

No doubt Indian SOFs have come a long way in not very long and given a few more years they will be even better!!
