Nepal's Parliament Approves New Map Including Territory Controlled by India
By Reuters, Wire Service Content June 18, 2020, at 3:51 a.m.
KATHMANDU (REUTERS) - The upper house of Nepal’s parliament approved a new map for the country on Thursday including land controlled by India, in a row that has strained ties between the South Asian neighbours.
India, which controls the region – a slice of land including Limpiyadhura, Lipulkeh and Kalapani areas in the northwest – has rejected the map saying it was not based on historical facts or evidence.
Some 57 members in the 59-seat National Assembly, or the upper house of the country’s parliament, voted in favour of a constitutional amendment bill seeking to replace the old map, chairman of the house Ganesh Prasad Timilsina said. The bill was passed by the lower house of parliament over the weekend.

Nepal’s parliament on Thursday unanimously endorsed changes in the country’s political map to include areas disputed with India.
The National Assembly, the 59-member upper house of Nepal’s parliament, unanimously passed the bill defining new boundaries of the Himalayan country, daily Kathmandu Post reported.
It was passed by the lower house, House of Representatives, last Saturday before being voted on in the upper house.
Nepal released its new map last month, which shows the disputed Kalapani, Lipulekh, and Limpiyadhura regions as its own territories.
India also claims sovereignty over these areas.
The bill will now be sent to President Bidya Devi Bhandari for authentication
