Don't forget the pre-delivery inspection. When I went to pick up the wife's Honda city - it had oil stains on the door pad. Refused delivery till they sorted it out.

If you are buying a not so fast moving model, high-end models, make sure to check and decode VIN number or look at Form-22 to verify the month of manufacture. Check for signs of rust in hatch lids/doors and if possible, underbody too. Indian brands like Mahindra, Tata are (were?) rust buckets as they've poor sheet metal quality.

Also, if possible book a car in transit. Dealerships have tracking. That way, you will get the newest and freshest.

No such cars unless you go into premium price category. Only small car I know is swift which has great driving dynamics but absolutely cramped seats.

Nothing beats resale of maruti cars (other than few failed models) and their service infrastructure. Its not only maruti official service center but also any good workshop can do the job as the spare parts are easily available.

Honda is a good choice , engine or other working parts wont give an issue. But they are severely over priced compared to other brands. Long time back I walked away from buying honda amaze when the difference between two trims was 40k where the higher level trim had a usb cigarette lighter , handles & side mirror was painted in body color.

If you plan to hold onto the car for more than 5-8 years , honda is a good car. Spare parts are expensive and similar level trims have lesser features than rival but more expensive. Fixing nicks & dents will cost a fortune. Good for highway use. With honda having few dealers and you cant negotiate the price, all the dealers will sell for the same price.

Beware more than selecting the car, you will spend more time fending off bait & switch tactics from the dealer. ***Never sign the documents without verifying the VIN number.****

By the way there is some bloody thing called as registration & handling charges costing around 6k which is nothing but a bloody scam. It is the amount charged by dealer to get your car registered & adding a litre or 2 of fuel for your car!

Suzukis in India - especially the mid to high range ones are excellent. Hyundais are marginally better.

Lot depends upon how tall you are. If you want to drive the car or be driven. If you are tall and need a lot of legroom, Etios is pretty good. If you want back seat comfort City is great!
