Nearly 5,000 volunteers to test Covid-19 vaccine in China
Beijing, Mar 25 (Prensa Latina) About five thousand volunteers registered in China this week to receive the first Covid-19 vaccine candidate developed by a People's Liberation Army medical team, news media reported today.
According to the Beijing News, the registry closed applications at midnight Monday and the applicants are healthy adults between 18 and 60 years of age.
Experts from the Military Academy of Medical Sciences will divide them into groups, apply one dose of the drug in Wuhan City - where the disease broke out and is being kept in focus - and then place them under observation for a period of 14 days.
Clinical trials of the recombinant vaccine will run for half a year.
Yesterday in Wuhan scientists inoculated with SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus the first 108 volunteers who received the injection last week against the resulting Covid-19 pneumonia.
They are now under 14 days of quarantine and after that period, they will continue to follow up for six months to identify possible adverse reactions.
The vaccine was developed by a team led by the country's leading biowar expert, Chen Wei, and the human trials received government approval on the 16th.
China gave the green light to the process a few hours after the United States announced that it would administer mRNA-1273, its own candidate for injection against Covid-19, to a group of citizens.
The drug from the Asian giant was obtained on the basis of the process followed in that of Ebola and, according to its creators, complies with national laws, international standards and will soon be on the market if it is successful.
According to the local press, the researchers will seek to determine if the substance produces antibodies and makes the patient immune to the respiratory condition.
