The problem is that India does not quite know its place. This makes sense when one considers its vision of its past and its expectations of its future. Independent India inherited the Raj's armies -- the peacekeepers of Asia and Africa -- and with them, the Raj's self-image as dominant east of Aden. It has always viewed itself as at least China's equal in spite of the 1962 loss -- and even as its northern neighbor raced ahead economically. Please read this 20 year old article on LA Times, you may have a better understanding as why India can never catch up China ( provided China is not in turmoil because of "color revolution") . Taking a long view, India is between a rock and a hard place: without a revolution India will be what it has always been; with a revolution there may not have a country called India as we know of.

Uneasy reading for any Indian, but it may help to cure some insanity.

At that time China was only double the Indian GDP and they already predicted China will overtake India even further, I still remember the BR guys were so upbeat that India can overtake China. 20 years have passed, we are now 5x their economy, not 2x.
