The missing scientist could've been abducted by our own agencies for maybe having liaisons with people never shouldn't have had liaisons with. Happened in the u.s. all the time during the cold war days. I disagree with this. Punish the genuine culprit but not the family. Family can be made to understand and even groomed to shun anti-state activities.

US can choose to erase Afghanistan tomorrow in a span of minutes with its massive firepower but then its HUMANITY will be called into question. US is taking a much harder path to address Afghan issues instead of going all-out (17 years and counting); HUMANITY is a thing.

And so do all agencies..often using non-profits as their operating front..but agencies also recruit key persons via social media these days...the effectiveness of social media for recruitment cannot be denied after sucessfull campaigns by terrorist outfits like Daesh and Al Qaida who were able to recruits dozens of Western citizens..
