PUNE: A third term cadet of the National Defence Academy (NDA) died Saturday morning following a cardiac arrest on a training run Friday evening.

His fellow cadets and conducting officers immediately took K Vignesh (19) to the Military Hospital where he was attended by a team of specialist medical officers, an NDA official statement said. Later in the night, he was shifted to the MH-CTC (Cardio Thoracic Centre), where he was attended by a team of expert medical officers. Cadet Vignesh, however, passed away early morning.”

Vignesh was an Air Force cadet of the 125th course of the Bravo squadron of the NDA. He hailed from Chennai and was an alumnus of the Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun.

Sources said Vignesh was a good basketball player even during his days at RIMC. Officials of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) said the autopsy was carried out at the AFMC forensic department. “We are in the process of sending the autopsy report to the NDA,” an AFMC official said. While the authorities at CTC refused to comment, it was conveyed that the body was discharged from CTC by Saturday afternoon.

“The fact that he was a student of RIMC and a third term cadet makes it clear that military training was not new to Vignesh. The reports will make things clear as to what went wrong,” said a senior retired officer.

While some officials said the incident took place during a practice run for the Cross Country which is scheduled to take place in the second half of February, NDA officials said it was a training run. Sources said Vignesh had not complained of a heart pain or any such symptoms prior to the incident. Vignesh’s elder brother is a former NDA cadet.

. . . .
RIP Vignesh. Condolences to the family. Is the cross country route the same as it used to be? Starting from the Glider dome and the last stretch down hill along the road?

well as for being a doc i must say in addition to being a sad incident it was a lesson as well. most of the times soldiers ignore any cardiac symptoms. please don't . a simple episode of palpitation or chest pain needs evaluation. atleast get an ecg done.
i saw two soldiers die because they travelled by flight from high altitude to warm plateau region, and without acclimatization started their drills and did not drink water or sweat much, ultimately landing into renal failure. 5 were ill and referred to our hospital but two could not be saved.

Any underline cardiac disease should have been detected during selection. Rest of your reasons may be the case.

RIP to cadet.
