ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Friday constituted a four-member committee for restructuring and reforming of national flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

The decision was taken at a high level meeting held at the Prime Minister's Office to take stock of PIA affairs. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Minister for Finance Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Advisor on Aviation Capt. Shujaat Azeem, Shaukat Fayyaz Ahmed Tarin and Naveed Malik would be the members of the committee.

The prime minister directed the committee to come up with proposals and recommendations in the next meeting for addressing the problems faced by PIA in order to make it a viable entity.

The meeting discussed in detail the issues being confronted by the national flag carrier and the ways and means to address them.

Those who attended the meeting include Minister for Finance Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khakan Abbasi, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Advisor on Aviation Capt. Shujaat Azeem, Shaukat Fayaz Ahmed Tarin, Naveed Malik and senior officials of the prime minister office.

The beleaguered national flag-carrier is notorious among Pakistanis for delays and cancellations and its planes have suffered a number of embarrassing technical problems this year.

It has also been a subject of a case in the Supreme Court over alleged corruption and mismanagement.

Thoughts?

PIA can be turned around fairly quickly. It only needs a group of skilled managers which is not difficult to find if the intention is right. Within PIA ranks, such people can be found. It has been politically hijacked and the PPP government, like in every other sphere of governance, destroyed PIA no less.

All these State owned Businesses should be sold to Private entrepreneurs from Pakistan. The state should not be in the business to run enterprises.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi totally F****** up PIA while he was the Chairman, so what can he do now that will improve PIA. Besides his effort would be to run it into ground because of his affiliation with Air Blue.

That is not true, we have improved the quality of planes, bought a few new ones, repaired a few. Our government might have faced a few management problems, but nothing that couldn't have been fixed. Nawaz will eff it up.

Anyways, you don't sell your assets to foreigners.

Seriously??? You want me to reply to this?

Do you know what happened to these tenders?

You didn't buy a single plane. You didn't 'improve the quality' of a single plane...you got any examples of a plane of which you 'improved the quality'? No you don't.

All you did was put in PPP jiyalas in every PIA department from ground handling to engineering to cabin crew to flight ops.

Do you have proof we didn't buy them? Documentation, perhaps? All these planes were already paid for, you can check that out. They were only to be acquired and recieved, and they were. We did not do any corruption, look at PIA employment figures, in fact, there are less employed now than in 2008, we increased efficiency. But believe in your media! GA BHUTTO!

Yes I do. They aren't here in PIA livery!!!...there is never any proof of a thing that isn't there, but there is a proof of a thing that is present.

No they aren't paid for. The only thing that was paid for was the refund fee for applying in the tender. The tenders later got closed.

If you are so adamant that you did buy the planes, why don't you tell me what plane did PIA buy and show me a picture of it? A registration would be very helpful as well...but i'll find it myself, you just tell me the aircraft type.

They were only to be acquired and recieved, and they were.

No such thing was done. Nothing was done except giving out tender and then closing them.

Nice joke.

Wake up my friend. No plane is coming. I am 100% sure. They were going to dry lease this from ILFC but the PIA board then rejected this deal in late April for some reason. The link you posted is of 21 April, the board cancelled the deal on 26th April! Go figure.

And PIA hasn't paid for any aircraft coming in 2015 or 2020. If it has, then can you post some link to that and also tell about the aircraft type?

The aircraft were reserved by ILFC, they were from Jet Aero Asia I think, the registration number was chosen as well but then it got cancelled.
