Navy's Next Destroyer Line Christened Visakhapatnam-class, 1st Launch Next Week

The first Project 15 Bravo (P15B) stealth destroyer, under construction at the Mazagon Dock shipyard in Mumbai will be launched on April 20.

Livefist can confirm that the new warship line has a name: Visakhapatnam-class, after the Navy's eastern hub.

The navy is aiming to induct the ship in 2018.

A total of four ships are to be built in the class, with the official timeline of deliveries starting 2018, and then a ship every two years till 2024.

The Visakhapatnam's keel was laid in October 2013. Construction and fabrication of the second vessel of the class began in July last year.

The Visakhapatnam-class maintains the same hull and propulsion package as the Project 15A Kolkata-class.

Russia's Northern Design Bureau, enlisted as a design consultant has helped reduce the size of the design's superstructure.

Meanwhile, the second P15A destroyer Kochi will be commissioned shortly into the Indian Navy.

I was talking about getting the battle cruisers but many members here think that they are useless.
Look at the fire power these beasts carry as battle cruisers:

20 × P-700 Granit (SS-N-19 Shipwreck) AShM
• 14 × SS-N-14 Silex ASW cruise missiles (Ushakov only)
• 96 S-300F Fort SA-N-6 Grumblesurface-to-air missiles (Ushakov,Lazarev, Nakhimov)[citation needed]
• 48 S-300F Fort and 48 S-300FMFort-M (SA-N-20 Gargoyle) long-range SAM (Pyotr Velikhy)[2]
• 128 9K95 Tor (SA-N-9 Gauntlet)point defense SAM[2]
• 40 OSA-MA (SA-N-4 Gecko) PD SAM
Guns:
• 1 × twin AK-130 130 mm/L70 dual purpose gun (2 × AK-100 100 mm/L60 DP guns in Ushakov)
• 8 ×AK-630 six-barreled Gatling 30 mm/L60 PD guns (Ushakov,Lazarev)
• 6 × CADS-N-1 Kashtan gun/missile system (Nakhimov, Pyotr Velikiy[2])
Torpedoes and others:
• 1 × 10 RBU-1000 305 mm ASW rocket launchers
• 2 × 6 RBU-12000 (Udav-1) 254 mm ASW rocket launchers

• 10 × 533 mm ASW/ASuW torpedo tubes, Type 53torpedo or RPK-2 Viyuga (SS-N-15) ASW missile

Imagine this sort of firepower in one ship. And then multiply them with 10.

Seriously, Navy should look at getting these things to complement our carriers and even be a part of CBGs.

What a disgusting name. Typical hindoos, why can't their be a Punjab, Amritsar, Jalandhar, or Chandigarh class? How communal.

It was supposed to be the Bangalore-Class! Damn they changed the name in a fortnight! :o:

First Project 15B Bangalore-Class Stealth Guided Missile Destroyer Ready For Launch Next Month

Almost all of the navy's shipbuilding in last decade was delayed due to Russia. later SAIL-DRDO developed Indian and better steel for the ships. Now they are looping Russians again!!!

The Project 15B vessel will retain the hull form of Kolkata class destroyers and most of its systems, there will be some significant upgrades. For example, some structural changes in the superstructure will improve stealth and include better sound and infrared suppression. The Project 15B will also differ from the Project 15A through employing a fully flush deck. This will improves stealth because of the smoothness of the overall deck with far fewer angles and corners. The displacement of each Project 15B will be approximately 7,000 tons, a 200 ton addition over the Project 15A Kolkatas.

Major Armaments
16 cells of for Bmos or any other AShMs.
2*8 cells on the fore-deck for 16 cells of LR-SAM
and 2*8 cells above the hangar for 16 more cells of LR-SAM
Thus 48 cells in total, 16 for AShMs and 32 cells for LR-SAM.
Ak 630

@Dillinger @Penguin @Capt.Popeye can guide better

That Armament load-out seems credible enough, but is that the final configuration?
Considering that the AK-630 CIWS is already up for replacement and the Nirbhay will also probably have a SLCM version by the time that the Vizag Class is ready for commissioning.

I was hearing about AK 630s will be replaced with some combination of guns CIWS and SR-SAM like on the Delhis but no confirmation anyplace

It may be possible that 48 units of LRSAM may be 32 Barak8 and 16 Nirbhays but only speculations atm
