NAVISTAR DEFENSE AWARDED $475 MILLION TO SUPPORT ALLIED FORCES MRAP REQUIREMENTS

Work includes new MaxxPro® production for Pakistan and MaxxPro® reset work for U.A.E.
LISLE, Ill., March 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Army Contracting Command recently awarded Navistar Defense, LLC, two foreign military contracts valued at more than $475 million. The first is to produce and support 40 MaxxPro® Dash DXM™ Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles for Pakistan. The second is to reset, upgrade and support 1,085 long wheel base MaxxPro® MRAP Excess Defense Article vehicles for the United Arab Emirates.
"MaxxPro® vehicles are recognized as the most survivable wheeled vehicles in the U.S. military's fleet," said Kevin Thomas, president and general manager, Navistar Defense. "We are pleased that these important U.S. allies are confident in the MaxxPro's® ability to protect their forces allowing them to complete their missions and return home safely."
The majority of the work will take place at the company's West Point, Mississippi assembly plant. Delivery is planned to be completed for Pakistan
in calendar year 2017

and for U.A.E. in calendar year 2018. Navistar is currently resetting U.S. Army MaxxPro® vehicles that have been retained in the Army's enduring fleet at its West Point facility. West Point is also busy producing new Medium Tactical Vehicles for the Afghanistan National Security Forces and other allies based on a contract awarded in August 2015.

We need truck manufacturing in Pakistan which is the basic building blocks for MRAPs! Latter could be achieved with the help of South Africa as long as we can start truck manufacturing either indigenously or build under licence. Buying MRAPs will not be enough in the coming future we will have to build them in Pakistan.

Bids were solicited via the Internet with one received. Work will be performed in West Point, Mississippi, with an estimated completion date of March 31, 2019. Fiscal 2010 other funds in the amount of $46,370,124 were obligated at the time of the award.U.S. Army Contracting Command, Warren, Michigan, is the contracting activity (W56HZV-17-C-0099).
Okay this is the UAE order details above .it completely shows that UAE vehicles are on reset program(which is excess articles ) and the contract date is feb 28 2017,while Pak contract date is feb 16,2017
Yes we know it ,because in UAE contract it is mention that only 1 bid they received, same is in Pak case.so good or bad we just want to buy new 40 vehicles.i agree with you on manufacturing locally,but even for the basics we need to establish a policy which attract investors .Forexample giving guarantee to investors that Pak will purchase 100 to 200 tucks yearly (gov needs) but they should bring 100% manufacturing plant to Pak,from engine manufacturing to electonic components etc.these trucks can be used in different sectors and we can easily add in our system.ambulance, snowplows,dumpers,army,navy,amphibious vehicles etc etc.we need a policy not like current auto policy .a better which attract investor and let them export freely from Pak.

Hmmm but i am amazed with UAE orders they just placed local order of
IDEX 2017: Nimr contracted to deliver 1,500 Jais vehicles to UAE military and
United Arab Emirates' (UAE's) military announced during the IDEX show in Abu Dhabi that it had ordered 400 8x8 vehicles from the local company Al-Jasoor
And now 1000+ from US.

All we need is a production facility from a good manufacturer and there are many globally like Tatra from Czech Republic, for that the government will have to show some seriousness to work. UAE being the size of Karachi is stockpiling MRAPs for a very good reason as coming time security on a global scale is spiraling out of hand. knowing the size of Pakistan MRAPs will have to be in number of tens of thousands. I just hope some seriousness is shown rather than doing something midway as we have a habit of doing so.

I think Mraps are maintenance heavy that's why the numbers are low.

how many people have died & Severely injured because of flimy pickups? far too many and they could have been around if MRAPs were in sufficient number?

Bottomline MRAPs will have to be obtained there is no two ways about it all MRAPs are in use now because they provide the necessary protection. Be it mines IED's or Ambush.

I think Mraps are maintenance heavy that's why the numbers are low.

MRAPs are truck chassis which has been armored. Trucks now days have great reliability and all vehicles need their maintenance at interval to function properly.
