Naval Chief Admiral Noman Bashir honored in Washington

So you suggest we should not buy equipment for defence ?

If yes then do we have the gaurantee that the money will be spend on social sector and wont go into pockets of rulers ?

if it means that we will default and become bankrupt I think we need to think again. As to money going into pockets is concerned, it is fast becoming a norm rather than an exception. However, world over defence is taking a back seat to other priorities, orders are being cut back and pay structures frozen. I honestly don't think we will be beaten by an adversary, rather we will pulverize ourselves into oblivion by in fighting and mismanagement. This is the real defence rather than buying arms which may never see the light of day. Don't get me wrong. i am as happy as any Pakistani when Pakistani forces 's genuine needs are met, but should they be met at the expense of increasing misery of the masses? Our threat perception is low at the moment with our neighbours. If we stabilize our economy, we will be able to better meet the needs of our forces.

Unless this guy does not push the Type-214 deal which is on pending I will be fully convinced that he is a corrupt Chief with no interest for his own navy. Ok i know that its the govt that approves the deal but what is he doing to make them? PN needs this high tech system desperately.

Brother. His credentials speak otherwise.

Yes the U214 deal is ideal for PN. Washington would have little say in the matter, as those subs are German. I doubt that U.S. can influence to such an extent Germany's decisions to sell arms

We need to work on our lobbying groups to ensure our perspective is effectively heard.

"It's essential for the upcoming leaders of our nation's military to be able to understand the views and efforts of our partners and consider the opportunities for cooperation as we all promote security and prosperity in the maritime domain."

Following Bashir's address, he answered questions from the audience. He commented on his meetings with various U.S. military and government officials throughout his ten-day visit to the United States, which was at the invitation of the U.S. Chief of Naval Operations, Adm. Gary Roughead. Bashir said the experience is valuable for moving forward, achieving the common objective and developing further understanding.

He also expressed belief in the importance of interaction at all levels of the military. Bashir met afterwards with Pakistan naval officers, who are students at the Naval War College and the neighboring Surface Warfare Officer School.

Currently, three Pakistan naval officers are part of the more than 100 international officers, who were handpicked by their nations to study in Newport alongside their U.S. colleagues. Eighty-six Pakistan officers have graduated from the Naval War College's international programs, many attaining the level of flag rank. The college's international programs were established more than 50 years ago to help form greater mutual understanding and enhance trust and confidence among friends and partners, the kind of interaction at all levels Bashir was advocating.

Bashir's ten-day program included visits to the Pentagon, U.S. Central Command, Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Naval Stations Mayport and Norfolk, the United States Naval Academy, and a U.S. think tank. His meetings focused on opportunities for coordination and cooperation between the U.S. and Pakistan navies.

Klakring is a sistership of the McInerney. She might well join PN in the near future....
