NATO supply cut hurting Pakistan’s Economy

The drama of not dealing with terrorist attacks is much better than a better economy.

hurting Pakistan's economy not because of foregone earnings, but because of the clogging of the ports.....charge a fee per container that is sitting around at the port.

I am ambivalent on this. Right now Pakistan has the moral high ground on stopping the supplies and exiting the WOT for good. If we charge storage fees, then we are implicitly obligated to deliver the goods at some point.

The goods don't belong to Pakistan. The only honorable option is to return to sender.

valid points

Stop the Taliban, don't give them the right to bomb your country. Thousands of Pakistanis have been killed already. Pakistani military forces being attacked. Just like a few days ago when 6 Pakistani military personnel were killed.

stop talking crax. we agree with fighting terrorism and pakistan has suffered more than any other country. What we wont give you routes for is to invade a country and then supply bases to india so they can train terrorists to kill pakistanis.

This report has been done by PEW, which is founded by some shady character 'Dr' Murtaza Mughal , who has done MD from Open International University. Has anyone ever heard of this 'Open International University' ?
His profile says that he has a 'management' degree from Qaid-e-Azam University and an MD from 'Open International University' , this guy doesn't seem to be very credible

NATO supply just a minor part of Pakistan's economy and people started to think as Pakistan sit at only earning from NATO supply. Need to mention that government made no alternative plan for people connected with supply as usual, All terms and conditions for resuming supply should be in favour of Pakistan's economy for this purpose Pakistan should block air corridor for US/NATO. Only after they will go as we want;we will think over their supply.

Asia is very big market and i am assure that if Pakistan will plan its economics keeping out US influence than it's not a big task to overcome financial gap being in Asia.

But who want to reject US Visa from our politicians and people?

Auction all the cargo piling up on the sea ports..send the proceeds to the families of nov 26 victims

its not our equpment dear we will load them on same ships at karachi and let them go thats it .

Why not off load it in Baluchistan desert like F-16.

Few trucks does not represent Pakistan's economy.

Pakistan policy makers need to add IMF loans of road construction to outstanding reimbursement.

I am sure Pakistan will take advantage of the present situation to extract maximum benefits for itself, as it should.

Last time it was you who was taking advantage for 10 long years!

I guess there are many other routes available and as we learn Pakistan is only loosing... so your perception is wrong.

After 10 years, it is Pakistan's turn now surely.

Why is Pakistan losing? It got Shamsi vacated, boycott the Bonn conference, and the NATO supply routes are still closed. These are real successes so far, and Pakistani resolve is still strong.

there would not be any supply after this WoT. better get used to this effected economy.
Precisely - NATO is pulling out most of its troops come 2014, the supply lines and transit business are going to largely vanish in any case, whether now or in another 2 years.

What should be handled in some manner is any blockage of ports/roads due to stopped NATO supplies - and many of the proposals made on this thread could work to alleviate that impact.

Whatever hurts you makes you stronger.

Pakistan will now move towards china and other countries and develope, let the haters cry all they want.

From the Pakistani perspective, the fact that we are not siding up with the US has reduced the number of suicide attacks in Pakistan itself. No one being patriotic can ignore the suffering of the pakistani nation in this war and it has been on account of siding up with the US. What was done at that time suited the Pakistani policy makers perspective. Events have proven them to be wrong and the country has suffered greatly. we now need to think about what suits us best especially since US itself is marking its exit strategy and wants to leave Afghanistan. We will have to deal with the mess afterwards as Afghanistan is our neighbour and so it suits us to formulate a policy which is the need of the times that prevail. We have learnt from the best, we are only doing what the world has taught us. Look after our own interests first.
