Hey guys, this is my first thread...
so last night i had a dream that the muslim nations form an organisation like NATO but this is just forces united, and whenever a muslim nation needs aid these forsec arrive there just like NATO...
What is your POV ?? Should muslim nations unite like NATO and stand upto it..
Nations that are comprised of a majority Islam practicing people are too diverse in their orientation, defense aims, economies and cultural ties to form any lasting defense cooperation agreement... hence why we haven't yet seen such a thing.
The differences between Yemen and Malaysia are too great. Pakistan and Algeria are to different as well, in both their goals and situation. Same goes for all Islamic majority nations. NATO works because of a shared identity, even if some nations go their own path like France of Turkey, they still have a common goal and mission - to protect Europe, mainly from Russian influence (not just an invasion). What would be the overriding goal, mission or central pillar of a Muslim NATO?
I don't see such a thing happening anytime soon due to many factors. Different geopolitical aims, economic strength, military rivalries, military strength.. too many unresolved issues and variables.
It's an interesting concept, but history tells us that military alliances like NATO aren't too common and are wrought with problems like commonality in goals, logistics capacity and contribution, economic strength and sustainability. Even in the actual NATO alliance, we see the US provide too much of the capability while European nations tend to be more slack on their contributions for a combination of factors ranging from a poor economic climate to a lack of necessity due to a limited threat situation. Too many issues to sort out prior to this conversation even becoming a reality, let alone a possibility or formality.
I would be the first to support such a venture though, even if it was aimed at keeping the US out (being hypothetical here). The Middle-East, North Africa and Central Asia are a tinderbox that seems to always find an ignition source. Perhaps a NATO type agreement can provide some stability in an otherwise unstable and often dangerous region. I can't say I would object to such a formation, I would actually be in favor of it.
The strategic goals of most of the Islamic nations are very different. So, why would they join a coalition which may or maynot support it's interests?
Quite, there isn't a common goal that can rally the Muslim nations together and this is the main problem with proposing this type of agreement.
