I do agree that S-2 should get the respect he deserves and that the language that is spoken to him in this thread is quite inappropriate especially toward someone with S-2's status in the army and his past.

The fact that there is enough evidence hanging about that point directly to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and its sub groups supplying Shi’ite militias. Not to forget the few Iranians accidentally caught in Iraq. But they were on holiday of some sorts.
I am sure Destructlord has sufficient computer/Google experience to actually find these references, but read and accept are two unrelated exercises.

Simply, before calling names and other second grad rhetoric try doing a real bit of reading of the facts. Nationalistic ego is fine but it serves little when you really can not say much else.
As far as Iran wanting a stable or unstable Iraq is concerned it is a bit of 6 of one thing vs half dozen of the other.
Form memory the cool down was direct to Iran with reference to those in Iraq who were reliant on Iran for funds and assortment of non digestible supplies. Again generalisations don’t really do justice to your arguments.

Also on the Iran- Taliban interaction was there not a small thread about here that indicated an improvement of relations between these two, so much for the sworn enemy thing.

LANDI KOTAL, Feb 11: Nato authorities provided military gear, including night-vision goggles, to Pakistani forces at a tripartite meeting held in the Khyber tribal region on Wednesday.

Senior military officers of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nato met at a military base near Torkham and discussed a surge in militancy along the Pakistan-Afghan border and attacks on Nato supplies in tribal areas of Pakistan.

Officials said that Brigadier Amjad represented Pakistan at the meeting. The participants also visited the Michni Post and attended a briefing there.

The night-vision equipment would enable the security forces to watch the movement of suspected elements in a radius of nine to 10 kilometres.

Pakistan has been calling upon the United States to provide night-vision equipment for quite some time to enhance the capacity of its forces fighting the Taliban in the region.[/I]

the reluctance of the US to supply NVG's to the pak army, stems from the fact that 2615 NVGs which were supplied to their afghan army and police allies have suddenly gone missing, whereas the US inspectors require the pak army to surrender their NVGs to the US for a stock audit every three months. so in reality the pak army is with NVGs for 6 months in the year.

what gives!

on another note USD 16.5 Billion has been spent on our "allies" across the durand line and no one raises any "hue and cry" as to how the money has been spent! - it is "****-bashing" at the highest levels. we deserve a share but not all of it.

Inventories of NVGs by serial number or SBN shouldn't take six months. Something's wrong there. That's an arms room inspection which is a piece of cake at any facility with a decent physical security plan for sensitive equipment.

Makes no sense to me. Items are properly hand-receipted, then there's no issue. This is the stuff that supply NCOs and officers should lose their jobs over.

I think you're either high or low on the Afghan aid thingy. With war, it's way more. As of late this summer, though, we'd only dispensed $5B of $10B pledged dollars. $16B sounds high there.

its a trust issue, which needs to be worked out otherwise i agree with your SOP.

16.5 is the mil-aid spent so far on the afghan army and police - pretty accurate - check the Times latest issue (i think!)

but what can you say, a hole is a hole is a hole - a million is a million and a billion is a billion - there is more from where this came - right!

S-2: Yes you outline of SOPs makes sense and what one normally expects.

But was there not something similar in Iraq with weapons when, many rifles, went missing from stores. I think they were AK-47s. They were captured/collected weapons to be reissued to the Iraq Army. But after a big weapon’s check there was a huge hole in the actual numbers vs what was meant to be there.

One reason was poor accountability/record keeping of these weapons. Here it was not just accounting by the Iraq but also the US military.


So is the Afghanistan situation just a re run of the same problem?

Yeah, there was a big stink too when they ran a night resupply op into the middle of some battle and were shoveling AKs off the floor of the choppers or some such.

Were it me, I'd be TAKING everybody's weapons, not adding to them. Plenty there right now and an AK isn't worth a damn past 250 meters anyway. Wasn't ever intended to be so we should never have brought weapons in ANYWHERE.

Biggest issue to me are the trainers. These guys are DOGGED from every end and there are never enough. Everybody wants to be with their units. It's safer and a lot less work for more reward.

We ask too much and provide too little where it really counts. You could have an army and police force by now of half the size and thrice as good. Numbers don't mean sh!t-especially in an insurgency when the forces are ill equipped but worse, poorly trained and motivated.

Politicians pushing the pace of raising forth an army of illiterates. What they should be doing with these recruits is getting them off dope, fed, healthy, in school, and martial training. One year for it all. Can't afford it and not enough time.

A shake n' bake army ain't the way to go, even for a new country. Especially for a new country.

Well as things were, though in some cases/places it ain’t changed, it was not that safe being a trainer. There seems to be a feeling within many that you need eyes in the back of your head, and that is not to look for the other side but the ones you train.

For a moment there I thought the second to last paragraph was about the new type of recruit the US Army seems to be getting.. Sorry just could not resist.

But as you point out a shake and bake army and police will not work, and so far they have not managed in reality a good 3/4 baked one. Did they try shaking bit first? I thought that was dropped to speed up the process. OK, some are good, but on average the whole thing is not ready and some units internally not that stable.

Anyway about the evidence you must reveal them and i think i have right to know as an Iranian, Which you claim my nation is helping the "terrorists"!! And we both know it's just an exit plan for the U.S failures! If U.S want a war then leave aside those ridiculous accusations! BTW S-2 in Iran we're trained for the military at school since we're 14 so if i were you i wouldn't underestimated me!

As far as the shake and bake army I have to concur with you guys. The sick feeling of watching guys getting high during combat stays with ya....
